Thread: America- land of the scared

  1. America- land of the scared

    http://pressherald.mainetoday.com/ne...0510list.shtml

    Happened in my hometown. -sigh-

If this kind of thing didn't pop up every week in one form or another, I'd just blow it off as momentary stupidity. When did the entire country become so damn scared of every little thing? When did we become a nation that makes France look strong and manly?

9/11 and Columbine. It's not that they happened, it's that afterwards the national "we" decided to do McCarthyism 2: Electric Boogaloo. Every white powder is Anthrax, every list of names is a death list. The Red isn't under every bed anymore because the ticking time-bomb has taken its place.

Bad things happen, and some can be prevented while others won't be. Reacting is good, obviously, but the current trend of scared girly-man overreacting has to go.

-edit- I see Kano and I are on the same page-

  2. blame the lawyers, after columbine the fucking parents were waiting in line to sue the school into oblivion because they didnt see the "signs" of 2 relatively well off but dismissably quirky kids who got bullied like about 1/3 of all high school kids, and thus was responsable their shooting rampage. Get used to it, so long as our nation defines every unpredictable accident as a litigatable case of neglegance every single blip on the radar will have to be treated as a major threat because if even one slips through, the parents will sue en masse.

Scourge:Azumanga Daioh is exactly the same thing as Ninja Scroll.
    buttcheeks: High school so weird

  4. The school is covering their ass. Because if they dont do this, and the kid actually goes out and does something, then lawyers would be lining up to sue the school board into nothingness. And the last thing we need is taxpayer money being spent to fight these crazy lawsuits instead of educating children.

James, youre 36 years old and you dont understand this? Come on.

Starting this thread seems like an overreaction. How ironic.

  6. They should just let the lawyers do their dirty work and crush the board, then we can see what the aftermath looks like.

That never works, stupidity often remains as stupidity.

  8. Don't have time to respond properly, but if you look at the article closer you can see it's got nothing to do with fear of a lawsuit.

    Kid writes list of names
    List is discovered
    Classmate starts rumor
    Rumor flies through school
Teachers figure out what's really happening
    Kid is suspended anyway

If this isn't clear enough on how this relates to the US's apparent fascination of being afraid of shadows then I'll explain later.
