I never really put any thought into achievement points until I got the system. Now everytime the message and "ding!" goes off I dork out and check my score and see what I got.

It doesn't do anything, but it's like this weird mental treat.

I also didn't think I'd want a different face plate until I got it too.

Anyway, this is just a message to let people know my router is back in full swing and I can now connect to people for Zboz Live games.

What's the point of playing something just for the achievement points? It's not like MS has added any prizes or something if you hit a certain level, or at least not that I know of.

In my experience people that don't understand the point of achievements either:

A) Haven't yet checked them out. There is no better feeling than playing a game, having something great happen, then finding out you get an achievement for it.

B) Don't understand the concept of points at all. If you can't get your head around why a person would play a game for score, achievement points may just never click for you.

Anybody else have any thoughts on this?

PS: I didn't see the "JUST for achievements" part of what you said. So I may be hearing you wrong.

thats what i've said from the start. it's a retarded idea until they start letting you use the points for downloads somehow.

It's just a good & logical idea that you get something free like those crappy thumbnails or themes for the points.
who knows that might even happen down the line when wii & Ps3 come out.

wait.....so you need meaningless points to feel satisfaction with a game? and theres a difference between UNDERSTANDING, and LIKING the idea. not too hard to understand that "ooooo you get points for playing and beating games". it's something else to say it's dumb and pointless.

a score does nothing for me. does it allow me to beat a game? no. does it unlock something. no. it has no purpose. therefore it is pointless.

lemme guess. since i didn't waste $300 on a system that has maybe 3 games worth playing, i wouldn't possibly be able to "get" the worthless achievement point system right? somebody has to waste their money before they can have a negative opinion about them right?

you're exactly the kind of sucker they made this crap for. like i said, if they offered downloads......ANYTHING, based on your points fine. but they don't and its just another e-penis bragging right.

and in my experience people people that "get" the achievement point system and like it are

a. still disillusioned with their $300-400 purchase and are looking for ANYTHING to to try and validate it

b. can only enjoy a game if the reward is a meaningless "point" payoff system that does nothing to add tot he enjoyment of the game. remember kids, they stopped putting scores in games in the 80's for a reason.

i could go on. but i figure with my blanket statements i've already accomplished the same as you.
