Validation Incomplete: Unable to Perform Validation[0x80080299]
Why didn’t my machine complete validation?
You have encountered an unknown error. Please contact your local product support team for further assistance with this issue.

  2. Windows Update does not support older versions of IE or WinXP anymore -- you need to download the update manually. Microsoft only provides the download for 'IT professionals', but it should work on any Win XP installation. This does NOT require validation.

You could also download it elsewhere (along with every other Windows patch) These are all on the Microsoft site, but some of them may require validation to get from MS.

  3. Awesome! Thanks.

Also: consdiering that you have not been running SP2, you may also want to do a scan on your PC for spyware and viruses. The odds of your machine being clean are... remote. Especially since a 'naked' WinXP machine put on the Internet lasts ~5-10 minutes before it gets attacked (I wish I was joking).

That's why my dedicated MAME machine has never been connected to the net. And never will be.

  6. Saints Row demo impressions-

Opening cinema- Stop holding your guns sideways, you brain-dead assholes! The only thing is shows is that you don't know how to use it.

My, they like the word "fuck" a lot.

Just passed the first mission, complete with walking into a glowing circle to start it like a certain other urban game. Beating it, I get a screen telling me I've advanced to the rank of Natural Leader. "You can now have up to one homie."

The "Snatch" mission- recruit hos and return them to the brothel for reputation points.

You get the idea on the whole "urban" thing. Painful crap.

The gameplay itself just doesn't feel quite right. Maybe it's years of GTA speaking, but the cars feel like they handle weird and run & gun just seems off, somehow. Nothing against the manual aim the game uses, rather than a lock-on, but it seems touchy. Your mileage may vary, of course.

Graphics are nice, although turning the camera quickly doesn't do good things for the background. There are some crisp, sharp visuals on display. Judging by the urban thing going on, I think I'm just as happy there's no music in the demo.

Excellent nav system. Mark a place on the pause-menu map and a green dotted line appears in the mini-map in the lower right. Very handy.

Short-term verdict- GTA wannabe that, once again, doesn't have the GTA charm. My 15 minutes of play may not be the most in-depth look at the game, though.

-edit- Played a bit more, and I'm afraid my opinion has sunk a bit more. Camera controls are pretty bad, especially in-car. Once the camera decides it wants to face the wrong way, it stays there. A quick reverse/turn/dash away means driving into the camera just long enough to crash into half the neighborhood.

Also, I found the radio. Not exactly the music I'm looking for.

Finally, the reason I stopped playing is because the demo froze. It's a demo, so I suppose I can't really say I'm surprised. It's what they do, after all.

Well, it still wouldn't let me install it. Told me the key I used to register Windows might be invalid. Gay.

Also, I run a virus scan every night at 4am, and I run Adaware and Spybot weekly.

The SP2 patch binary inclues a list of known 'banned' serials.

The simple answer to this is to get a new serial. (That I can not link you too, for obvious reasons). You can also find tools to inject new serials on the Internet (that I probably could link you to, but it's 3 AM and I'm going to bed).

    ....

Also, short bit on Cloning Clyde (since I just finished it): it sucks. My biggest beef is that it assumes the player has an IQ of about 50, and all of the problems presented in-game are braindead.

After playing the trial version, there was no way in hell I was going to spend $10 on this POS. The lack of music or even ambient sounds other than the noises coming from Clyde himself left me feeling empty while I played and the level design wasn't all that interesting.

  10. Yeah, I got everything straight finally around 6am. Everything is copacetic now. But I still can't get my NAT off of moderate. Any suggestions?
