I played this today after only playing 4 at TrialSword's a couple of times.
I never, ever want to play it again. The DoA games have this weird ability to turn me into a lava-spewing mountain of pure rage and biting. I mean, getting my ass juggled and face-slammed after a teleport by the boss for a half-hour isn't my idea of fun.
Few other games can still do this to me, DBZ: BT2 for example.
PS: Bayman should still be eating the same dick I've been telling him to eat since DoA 1. Damn it all, I hate that man.
That... Bay... man.
Yeah, the boss is BS (she in fact blatantly cheats at times, throwing you when you're in a non-throwable state for example), but there's a couple of things to keep in mind...I've had to fight her like a million times to unlock everything (dozens of story mode and time attack)...
She almost never blocks, her defense is based all on out-prioritizing you, which she can do easily. Also, she has no actual reversals, so feel free to string away on her. I've gotten multiple perfects on her by picking the right high priority attack that's outside her reaction range, but will outdo what she'd normally throw out. For instance, f,f+P for Spartan over and over again will work if you get the range right.
She will occasionally insta-throw you, and there's nothing you can do about it, she'll do it anytime, from almost any range. Her other super throw (the rear naked grab and pound) is an actual throw and you can duck to make her wiff, but usually just go under high attacks with it so it's guaranteed.
I never got around to playing DoA4 online and really should soon. And I agree that the final boss is just complete cheapness. The only way I've really found through her defense is low attacks and then changing it up. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you get tossed.
Yeah, she's SNK boss level cheap, it took me a long time to figure out patterns to beat her.
I find that I play the shit out of this for awhile, then put it away and forget about it, then play the shit out of it again. Pop into the training mode and do the move lists to really get the handle a character. I've had it for almost a year and I'm still seeing new moves.
I've been trying to get achievements for time trial(s) and it's driving me nuts. I read that you can turn down the rounds to 1 for single time attack, but I've hit the time to get a bronze trophy and it won't give it to me.
