That's because a lot of the 2d DS games are just higher res GBA games. From a technical standpoint the DS is a 2d beast, but developers are lazy.

  2. I remember thinking that Fusion was a fairly easy game, but then again I thought the same thing about Super Metroid. Its been probably 2 years since I've touched Super Metroid and more than that for Fusion, but I remember playing almost to the end in Super Metroid (had to give it back to a friend before I could beat it) and being shocked at how short and easy it was. I mean I played through nearly the entire game in two sittings. When I was younger I had a Genesis growing up so I never got to play Super Metroid until a few years ago. All I can say is that nostalgia has clearly blinded people into thinking its the best game ever made. Not that thats a bad thing, I think bias can't help to factor into people picking a favorite game. But if you think Super Metroid is soooo ridiculously superior to Fusion you need to get your head checked. Yes, it IS definitely a better game, and YES, it IS one of the best games I've ever played (and I played it like... 7 or 8 years after its original release), but the best game ever? I dunno about that. Buuuuut hey I think Ocarina of Time and the original zelda are the 2 best games ever made, and I know for a fact that my own personal nostalgia has influenced THAT perception. Point in closing, Super Metroid may be amazing, but its not like it was this incredible 40 hour exploration adventure that took you weeks to complete just out of its sheer difficulty. You can play through the game for your first time in 6 hours and still get nearly all the powerups and everything. Don't tell me you can't because I did it.

I love Super Metroid but I don't know if it's even Top 20. I don't know what it is with the Metroidvania game genre but it seems to inspire rabid silliness in it's fans. Games are either the best or worst ever, with no in between. Games just on the SNES I would rank higher than Super Metroid, off the top of my head:

    Super Mario World
    Yoshi's Island
    Super Mario Kart
    Contra 3
    Castlevania 4
    Super Mario All Stars
    Street Fighter 2 Turbo
    Earthbound
    Zelda LTTP

That's 9 games off of my head just on SNES, I could think of at least 20 Genesis games that'd rank higher, so off the top of my head the highest it could possibly rank if we only include SNES and Genesis games is 30th.

Define "2d beast". It still has alot of the same shitty obsolete sprite/tile/palette limitations and shit that GBA had. It's massively inferior in terms of 2D ability compared to PSP (which has no dedicated 2D hardware, but also none of the limitations associated with that).

I didn't mean to say that I'd put it in my top 20, just that it wouldn't be entirely unreasonable.

I call bullshit. You can't possibly know how many items you collected without beating it. So I'm telling you that you can't and you didn't.

  7. I probably spent 6 hours just trying to figure out how to wall jump, and I still don't know how to do it consistently.

By what my friend (who has beaten the game multiple times with all items) TELLING me what I had and didn't when I gave the game back to him, I can tell you that you can and I did. I certainly didn't have everything, I'm guessing I had maybe 60-70% of the powerups (ie extra power tanks, missile upgrades, that sort of thing), but seeing as how I had only played the game for 5 hours, I don't think its ludicrous to say that you could get EVERYTHING your first time through with NO help in 10 hours or less.

Edit: And by the way, why the HELL would I bullshit something like that?

Spin jump at a wall, then when you're up against it press in the opposite direction. Samus's sprite will change to show her kinda grabbing the wall, and you can jump.

I beat Super Metroid with 100% in about 2 hours. Not my first playthrough, obviously.

I think I died once at Ridley, because I was dumb and tried to dodge, but that's it. The game is super easy though. Still good.
HA! HA! I AM USING THE INTERNET!!1

  10. No one is ever going to play SM and get 100% on their first time ever playing it in under 10 hours without a walkthrough or a strategy guide. THAT is why I called BS.
