Thread: Tony Hawk's American Wasteland

  1. Tony Hawk's American Wasteland

    (Seriously, read this)

    Rundown:

    - This game will take place within one giant city, gta style, instead of different levels. No load times either.

    - The game takes place in 1980's LA, with an emphasis on the Punk culture. Expect 80's clothes and music in the soundtrack.

    - PS2, Xbox, Xbox360, no PC announced yet, don't know about handhelds.

    - It will be on Xbox Live.

    - They've tossed in BMX bikes in the game as well. From the sound of it, the bikes will control differently from the skateboards. You'll have to use both analog sticks in order to shift your weight.

    - You go around town and get your hair cut and change clothes in shops, GTA:SA style.

    - Classic Mode will return, instead of the giant LA level you'll play in old school THPS levels.

    - You can ride a bus or train to teleport you around the city.

    - New moves include those Z-Boys surf slides (whatever they're called).

    - The pros are in it, but non playable. I wonder if they'll all be age appropriate for the time period. I think Hawk was still in his teens then, and then there's Ryan Sheckler (The teenage skater from THUG2) who must of been like 5 at the time.

    - The pics show this weird bar at the top of the screen, hopefully its not the balance meter because it looks fucked up.

    My two cents:

I'm happy with this, I've been hoping this series would do this ever since I first played GTA3, this is definetly a step in the right direction. I'm not to crazy about the bmx though, I was into it at first, but having to use the analog sticks in a thps game is a major turn off. But it will be cool to see skate and bmx clans show up online, battling each other. And the return of Classic Mode is great, I hope they bring back some THPS4 levels this time around. Alcatraz with the current physics engine would be great. At the very least I think this game will have some very interesting no manual lines.

  2. Ripoff total

  3. Im tired of Tony Hawk games. What are we up to, 6 games in 6 years? Thats worse than Tomb Raider. This needs to go away.

  4. I heard about this not to long ago. I like the idea much more than Underground (The first Underground wasn't bad, but the second was terrible IMO).
I hope there is no load times between areas.
I like the inclusion of bikes, as long as the control is close to Mat Hoffman's. Which i'm sure it will be since Mat Hoffman's was build off the THPS engine. Now I'm sure we will see the inclusion of other O2 games in future Wasteland games (Shawn Palmer, Kelly Slater, Shawn Murray).

    No Bam?

I’ve been in the same mindset as Regus since GTA III came out, and have desperately wanted a massive, open-ended, free-roaming Tony Hawk game. I originally thought that Neversoft might be taking this series to the next level when the first Underground game promised that you could get off your board, roam around on foot, and drive vehicles, but unfortunately, this vision of skating utopia is not only being realized a couple of years late, but also in the middle of a major Tony Hawk burnout for all but the hardcore THPS addicts.

At least one of the Tomb Raiders was good.

  7. I stopped playing after 3... it got too complicated for it's own good.

I played the first one for about 20 minutes and realized these games are not for me.

  9. I loved pretty much every Tony Hawk game up until Underground 2, which was a huge pile of steaming crap. I feel though the only reason the games kept my interest is because my friends and I would always fight for high scores in the game always trying to beat eachother.

This version on the other hand I am not interested in the least. Upgrade the engine already Neversoft, you've been running on the same slightly modified engine since THPS3.

  10. Mzo, same here, although I do enjoy THPS 2's park editor. These games are perfect time killers for when I just want to do random shit. Great $5-$10 purchases.
