Did I miss something? Does that sum up what we all know?
Pretty much, but PS3's memory is much, much faster, and the PS3 has support for higher HDTV resolutions (unless it was false about 360 not supporting 1080p, which I would certainly imagine it is considering them touting the "HD era") and two HDTV's at the same time.

When was the last time that AMD released a chip, and Intel released one twice as fast within 4-5 months?

Anyways, on topic...I wonder what this game is. I hope they still do a Jade Empire 2 on 360.
Well, considering AMD launched their 64 bit processors quite a while ago, and Intel has yet to release anything that comes anywhere near it in terms of game performance, I don't think that is a very good example.

And, like with AMD's 64 bit processors, or really much more so, Cell is an extremely different kind of architecture (there is a reason they put 2 bn into R&D, and it has been so hyped).

Regardless, if you're an Xbox fan you don't have to worry, I'm pretty sure Bioware has said they have two titles in development for the 360 as well.

Buy Yakuza and Oblivion. Help yourself, help TNL.

I'm sure the cell is a powerful chip, but we went through all of this with the emotion engine, and that didn't turn out to be nearly as impressive as they made it sound at the time. It's not like Microsoft just took some random chip off the shelves; this is the first multi-core PowerPC chip (at least that I've ever heard of). I'm just saying that I've learned to be skeptical of Sony and their chest pounding when it comes to this kind of stuff. I think the two will end up closer in graphics and performance than the general public thinks right now.

I'd like to play some Bioware games on the 360, but I'm mostly interested in a Jade Empire 2.

  3. The "2X more powerful" thing is just coming from that stupid graph Sony put up, and you know what, the whole flops thing is retarded. Emotion Engine was able to do 6.2 GFLOPS to the Xbox's 2.9, look what happened there.

The Cell is far more powerful than the PowerPC architecture. 2x is a major understatement. The hardware will be basically as comparable as the PS2 and Xbox, just in the other direction.

  5. I'm glad we have Dr. Yoshi with his electrical engineering degree from MIT to explain this to us.

Yes, and he also worked with the designers of both pieces of hardware so he's eminently qualified to say this.

Think what you want. I am talking strictly processors here.

  8. Any person who honestly thinks there should be one unified console, probably doesn't have alot of credence on any topic.

Ok, I'll still believe your Baseball opinions.

So you like paying for three consoles when by definition two of them are inferior?

  10. I like the variety. Yeah. I would rather spend 400 dollars on two consoles and play (most of) the VERY best games .. instead of paying 300 dollars for one console and playing games that are just good enough.

I'm too tired to go through the history of Capitalism and try to explain and list examples to you on why competition is better for the consumer. It's just something that any intelligent person that has taken a few college business courses should understand.

Edit: Ok. I read the other thread. You want a standardized console, with everyone making games for it. That makes better sense ... but, I would be worried about all the additional controllers, components, and other bullshit that game companies would MAKE you buy. Halo2 .. great. But you will need to buy OUR on-line hardware and service. Mario Party 8 .. Great. But you will have to buy our microphone, eyetoy and controller. Etc. etc.
