If somebody doesnt buy the system and buys no games = Microsoft loses $0, exactly. They dont gain any money, but they dont lose anything.

If somebody buys the system and buys no games because they pirate everything = Microsoft loses money, around $100-$150 depending on the time period.

Clearly, MS would rather have a person not even bother with Xbox than buy the system and not get any games. In fact, a common theme on Slashdot around Xbox' launch was people who wanted to buy it and play no games, because that cost MS money.

So what were you trying to say? That Microsoft would've lost money no matter what if people buy the system? Thats wrong, because people who buy games + system would make MS money, while people who buy system for piracy would lose MS money.
