I haven't tried DOS games in ME before so I don't know but using the emulator DOSBox should work. That's how I ran Dreamweb in XP.

And I need to try Windjammers again. It has been a long time.

  3. NeoZ pwned the thread!

and H.E.R.O is a fine game.

Windjammers is without a doubt the heat. Another great forgotten game is my favorite fighter on the Neo Geo(please note that I'm too lazy to get screens right now, someone else feel free):
    Ninja Master's
This ADK fighter released in '96 is definately one of the rarer Neo titles. While perhaps not as spitshined as KOF or Last Blade, this game oozes with style and playability. All of the characters are cool, my favorite being the huge fat monk.
Each character has a weapon which can be drawn or sheathed at will by pressing the A and B buttons together, and knowing when to break it out adds a strong element of strategy to the mix.n Some of the characters are the most original ever, both in design and play style in my opinion. And the combos are all totally free-form. Definately the most underrated fighter ever in my opinion.
To boldly go where lots of men have gone before...

I actually own this, an ST-V, and VF Kids. Someday I'll get a supergun and hook this shit up. Heh. Looks fairly... interesting. Came with the board, I had no interest in it, or, well, any knowledge of it otherwise.

  6. Ozark Software, known for thier cult hit M.U.L.E on the C-64 and NES, also created this little C-64 gem known as Seven Cities of Gold.

Set in the days of Columbus, you play the role of an explorer setting out to discover new continents and cultures. As you discover more land and villages, you are rewarded by the king and with the money you buy more ships and men.

Once you discover these villages, you can either bribe them with gifts, or conquer them and take thier supplies to further your progress towards claiming all the land for Europe. The only problem with conquering the villages is, that the other villages connected to them will attack you as soon as you enter. Your men will die and you'll have to go back to Europe to hire more men.

  7. I had a friend in grade school who always raved about Seven Cities of Gold, but I had no idea what it was all about until now. The description is definitely more flattering than the screenshots.

  8. Holy Recap. As much as I've disagreed with him, I'm beginning to agree with his hatred of stretched-out low-res visuals. One day I randomly realized that it looks uglier than sin.

  9. Terracon

Developer - PictureHouse Software (primarily made of the team who made die hard trilogy)
    Publisher - Sony
    System - PSX

This game is a great sci-fi 3rd person shooter. You play the role of an alien who's home planet was destroyed by this thing that creates worlds. You want to create your old world again, and to do that you have to collect "genergy" while fighting off the things evil hordes of robots. The story is very lame and generic, but it plays fantastically. Being developed towards the end of the psx' life, it had fantastic graphics and much smoother gameplay than any other game in the genre on the psx I can think of. Apparently, this wasn't released in the US, but its well worth tracking down.

    Publisher - Konami
    System - SNES

This game is so rad. Basically, you pilot this mech and you shoot the shit out of other mechs. Your weapons are upgradable, and are all awesome. You also have a shield to block with, which comes in VERY handy. The mech you pilot feels very bulky and heavy, its one of the only games I can think of where jumping feels nice. As far as SNES games by Konami go, its one of the greats.

    Excelsior

Developer and Publisher - Daniel Berke & Matthew Engle
    System - DOS

This nifty little RPG kept me entertained for many hours back when I ran a 386. Its an ugly game, but fairly deep. It has quite a big skillset and the map is pretty big too. Its main flaw gameplay wise is how easy it is to cheat the system to level up or avoid harm (eg horseback + crossbow = unstoppable)

    Metal Kombat: Falcon's Revenge

    Developer and Publisher - Nintendo
    System - SNES

I will bring this game up in every thread about overlooked games or great games of the past. It is by far the best gun game ever. You play the gunner of a super tank, or "ST" who has to battle other ST's for some reason. Your ST is special because you have a seperate gunner and driver. The driver does his best to follow the enemy while you have to shoot it to kingdom come. Its surprisingly strategic, much more than you'd expect from this sort of game. Your rivals have attack patterns and weak points which you must learn to defeat them.

    Uniracers

    Developer - Rockstar North
    Publisher - Nintendo
    System - SNES

The best 2d sidescrolling racer of all time? Probably. You played as unicycles racing at break neck speeds on tracks made of tubes. Sounds retarded, but its fantastic. It has a really nice trick system, where each trick is rewarded by a speed bonus, giving the game its strategic edge. it was really good 2 player too.

I wanted to add more PC games, but I've gone blank.

Cool game. The JP name is Valken directed by T. Tsuchida who later went on to make the Front Mission games. But the reason I came in here was to point to the interesting Japanese ending edited from the US release. You can find it HERE. Apparently corporate suicide is to risky for the US. There is also a bad ending for the US release of the game.
