Thread: Kirby's Canvas Curse

  1. This game has gotten me excited for the DS again. It's a quick, fun game that really uses the touch screen superbly. It takes like two seconds to get used to the stylus control and after that it's a breeze.

I'm only up to world four, but so far it's been a somewhat easy game. There were a few stages that gave me some trouble, but not enough for me to die more than three times total. The one thing I absolutely HATE about this game is the underwater shit (surprise). Since Kirby is just a puff ball, he floats in water so you need to try (emphasis on try) to get him to go down into the water. You can tap on him to dash downwards, but that doesn't really work all that well.

The length of the game is apparently short right from the start. It took me an hour to get to world four, so it's a fast game. However, there are medals to be found all over the place which you can trade in to unlock things. Each world is broken up into three stages and within those three stages are three giant red medals hidden around. Playing straight through the game will only garner you 72 medals, so you won't unlock practically anything that way. After you beat a world, that world can then be played in "Rainbow Run" which is two different modes: time trial and ink run. Time trial is self explanatory, but ink run is a little different. Unlike the main game where your ink supply fills up, in this one it doesn't and you earn medals depending on how little ink you use. So, really, each stage in a world has nine medals to collect (a gold in time trial and ink run will get you three medals), so there is always something you can be doing. There are tons of things to unlock, such as songs, characters, different colors for the lines you draw (I unlocked a zebra pattern), movies, etc. So like most current Nintendo games, the game itself is short but it's full of replay value.

I can't wait for Meteos to come out :O

Which figures, because I just bought one with Mario on Friday.
I don't think this deal exists in Canada anyway for some odd reason. I keep asking stores about it and they haven't heard of it.

Nah, that deal is here... I think.

On topic: Holy shit this game is fun. I tried my coworker's copy before my shift today, and I couldn't pull myself away. And I hate Nintendo!

  4. I just got this game a few hours ago and... wow. This is one of the most impressive games I've ever played, and it's a 1st gen title. Within the last two hours I've played of this game, I was never once intimidated by the gameplay or game mechanics, and was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Here is to hoping there is a longer and more creative sequel.

  5. Goddamn you all. I decided I didn't need this game (didn't like my one other Kirby experience -- Amazing Mirror) but now I see that I can't live without it. Is it on sale at Best Buy or Fry's?

  6. Made me laugh.

  7. so does the us version come with the pink stylus?

  8. Brilliant game. Its totally the killer app I was hoping it would be and made my recent purchase of a DS worth it. I'd be fun to start a high score thread for time trials and stuff but as expected most people on this board are ignoring the game so the thread wouldn't be worth making.

Its great to see HAL putting out something as fun as Smash Bros. Hopefully Kirby GC is good.

You just draw a line over Kirby, which pushes him(it?) down. Works well enough for me.

  9. Yeah. It's just like the normal gameplay, but flipped upside down.
