  1. Midwest Championships Announced (hosted by NubyTech)

Not sure which of you folks live in IL, but this may be of news to you. Guilty Gear will be among one of the games featured so I expect Destin will be flying out there.

    Today, NubyTechT announced its
official Street FighterR tournament, The 2005 NubyTech Midwest
Championships, which will take place June 24-26 at Nickel City in
Northbrook, IL. The longest running annual fighting game tournament in the
United States now enters its 12th year, and is being organized and run
exclusively by NubyTech. Since the debut of the Midwest Championships in
1994, hundreds of players have attended the tournament from all over the
world, including places as far away as Europe. During these three days the
competition is so intense that there is no time to eat or sleep. Players in
the fighting game community practice day and night until the ultimate game
guru is crowned. Fame and glory are not the only rewards for winning an
event like this, a record amount of cash and prizes including Official
Street Fighter Anniversary Edition Controllers and Arcade Sticks are planned
for distribution to only the mightiest of warriors. The tournament will
consist of double elimination tournaments in games such as Super Street
Fighter II Turbo, Capcom vs. SNK 2, and Street Fighter III: Third Strike.
Recognizing the need to expand the overall game lineup, fighting game
fanatics will flock in droves to play in the Guilty Gear X2 #Reload and
Tekken 5 tournaments, appearing at the Midwest Championships for the first
    time.

  2. I don't think all these tournaments are going to breathe a second life into fighting games

  3. That isn't going to stop Furby, JWong, Cole, among the rest of the avid fighting community from participating. It's free money for them.

...anyways, Capcom Fighting Jam is coming to Xbox this month, so I'll have new crap to play.

New crap, indeed. Why even bother? (Sure, it's on XBL and all, but even that is recycling the same netcode they used from their first game. The game being worthless does not help any, either.)

  5. This sucks ass, the Nickle City near me never has fighting tourneys, even though the latest fighter they have is CvS2.
    All is well.

I dunno, kind of because I need an excuse to still play fighters online.

  7. I'm glad that the scene is still going, but can't they drop super turbo already? hyper fighting was the last version of sf2 worth playing

  8. Might as well use Hyper SFII for tourneys- that way no one has to bitch about versions. That game saved my group of friends a lot of bickering when it came time for some SF2 action.

That would be cool, but it wouldn't take long for players to start bitching about something else, like both players not being able to use WW Guile.
