Thread: Who do you admire most in the Video Game Industry?

  1. Miyamoto created some franchises and nothing else. Fuck anyone who thinks we wouldn't be playing console games right now if it weren't for Miyamoto. Suck his dick in private, not here on the forum.

I don't respect anyone, as I don't know anyone in the industry personally. But I do respect in general anyone who donates their time or money to good causes.

  2. Yasumi Matsuno. Directed, wrote, produced FFT and Vagrant Story. Did Tactics Ogre and Ogre Battle. Under-appreciated for reasons I can only speculate.

John Carmack has made my favorite games and popularized the FPS, and Warren Spector has taken that genre and done some brilliant things with it. Shigeru Miyamoto has made the all-out most fun and best designed console games I've ever played, and Yu Suzuki is a master of console game realism and depth.

Hiroshi Yamauchi is a fucking badass.

If it were anyone but you making that statement I would take the time and argue, but since it will just boil down to the defecation of my family tree I'll abstain.

  5. I'm surprised nobody mentioned Ralph Baer. Without him, all of the other people mentioned in this thread would be without jobs (or more realistically, doing something else).

Other gaming guys that I admire (I'll try not be redundant by repeating names already mentioned):

    Shozo Kaga: Fire Emblem creator.
    Kunio Taki: Ex-Technos President.
Genyo Takeda: Nintendo R&D3 chief. Creator of Punch-Out and Star Tropics.
Satoru Iwata: Soon-to-be President of Nintendo.
    Yuzo Koshiro: Music composer.
Susumu Matsushita: Character designer of Maximo and other games.

I wrote a reply last night, giving him credit for videogames, the invention of the light gun, and many other gaming related inventions. He also invented the Simon game. The man is a genius. The server locked up or somethig, andmy post was lost.

I'd also like to give props to Nolan Bushnell, even though many of his ideas were stolen from Ralph Baer, he helped to create gaming as we no it today. He introduced pong, as the first arcade videogame. The Atari VCS, was the first successful home console, and Atari Corp. helped make arcade gaming what it was in the 80's, with games like Centipede, Asteroids, Missile Command, and Tempest. His company was true pioneers of the videogame industry.

Actually, I've been having the same problem too over the last couple of days. It seems to be on certain posts though. And I haven't seen any of the mods addressing this issue either.

    Gunpei yoko (game & watch..)
    Hiroi ôji (red prod.)

Yu Suzuki, John Carmack, Will Wright, and Peter Molyneux are who I respect most in the industry. Strange, considering I'm mostly a console gamer
