Thread: Adware to Flourish Over BitTorrent

  1. Adware to Flourish Over BitTorrent

    Stolen from Slashdot:
    http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,1828633,00.asp
Is it just me, or is this really just focusing on the main, stupid BitTorrent client?

...and I didn't put this in Circuit Board because everyone hates malware.

  2. I dont get how Adware can be installed by launching an .mp3 file or something.

    I r confused.

The only way I see this working is if the client itself displays ads. As long as you don't execute any unknown .exe files after you grab a torrent, you should be fine.

  3. What they are doing is putting up dummy file .exe's .zip's and .rars. They label the .exe's as something they are not and when ran BAM you get HUGE malware. The .zip's and rar's are sometimes self extracting and will have what you wanted....plus a hidden executable with it.

Thats how people are getting caught.

  4. We need to find out what types of programs can be used to seperate spyware if any has been included, so we can open the files without having to worry about it.
"Your soul better belong to Jesus, mmm-mmmmm..... cause your ass belongs to me!"

  5. I never use BitTorrent anyway.

If I ever become the autocratic ruler of this country though I promise to extinquish the existance of spyware and adware.

Well then only the dumb people will get it. Fortunetly I and apparently yourself will not fall for these tricks. So its ok.

Cool.. And then declare war on all of the 60 other countries that also supply spyware and adware.
MK2 on XBLA plz - let the unfolding of gameplay begin!!

  8. Will these stop the million of bittorent users out there? No.

  9. Well they're not trying to stop bit torrent users, they're just trying to make a quick buck. It's the fat cats in hollywood that are trying to stop bit torrent.

  10. Won't stop me from using it. Looks like I'll be running Ad-Aware in my downloads folder a lot more, but it only takes a few seconds.
