Gameplay and interesting graphic?! I dunno, might just be me.......

  4. Yoshi's Island has a fantastic art style and the main draw is its incredible level design, the best out there really.

Yoshi's Story was the first sign of Nintendo allowing their sequel quality consistency to slip. I'm still amazed they actually released something so mediocre. They had never let me down previously.

  6. Yoshi's Island may be a great game, but for me it was the greatest disappointment I've ever experienced as a gamer.
Nintendo labelling the game as a sequel to SMW just set up such high expectations for me that the end product couldn't deliver.

I never really thought of Yoshi's Story as a sequel to Yoshi's Island, and I certainly can't imagine it being thought of as SMW 3.
It's just another platformer that happens to have Yoshi.
Kinda like Revenge of Shinobi and Shadow Dancer.

  7. Can you please explain how Yoshi's Island was a dissapointment in regards to SMW??

I can only think of the fact that you didn't have mario to control.
    Finished Games of '09
    nothing at this time

There's an option for turning that off for the other Doom/Doom II freelook mods, and it allows you to control splash damage and attack enemies above/below you much easier than the auto-aim ever did. It really does improve the game.

It's not a bad game, but it isn't at all what I wanted or was expecting.
It's my own fault that I didn't find out more about the game before I got it.
I read that it was a sequel to SMW and never felt the need to find out more. The way I saw it, a new SMW = purchase.
When I finally played it, my first impression was that it didn't play anything like SMW, the graphics looked like somebody had eaten a box of crayons and puked on my screen, and baby mario was annoying.
In retrospect that seems silly, and I may pick up the Advance version, but at the time I would have been happier with a rehash of SMW ala SMBLL.

That's what kept me from ever playing the game. I remember for a solid year, everytime I'd walk into Best Buy; You'd here baby Mario crying. If it irritated me just hearing a demo, I can't imagine what playing the game would have done.
