Thread: Ideal game packaging

  1. What does that nyko case look like mech?
    It's a mirror image!

  2. It's black, with a plastic belt clip. Looks just like a regular plush multi-CD case, but the size of the mini-DVDs.

  3. I might agree with everyone...if the GC boxes didn't fit into any kind of storage device. But since they fit in my standard DVD rack, along with my XBOX and PS2 games, I see no need for changing it. The way I see it, the Japanese are getting gyped, as they can't do anything but stack them on top of one another, or "book-shelf" them. And they have an easy-to-damage cardboard sleeve arround the cases. I'll keep my big, bulky, in-the-way, yet standard sized DVD cases, thankyouverymucha!

i have to concur with this

dvd cases are great for games
they fit with all my dvd movies and it just makes it alot easier
i dont have to say buy any special holding thing for them i can buy any generic dvd holder or just bookshelf them (like im doing now)

    dvd cases all the way

  5. I kind of enjoy the giant Neo Geo AES cases with the heavy-duty buckle.

I have been inspired by NGPC clamshells and DVD cases... By combining both, the ideal packaging medium would be created...

Cut a DVD box in half so it is the size of a jewel case... Make it a tab bit wider (but not quite as wide as a NGPC clamshell)...

Make it nice and sturdy like a NGPC clamshell (thick reinforcement)... Viola. This case would have a sleeve for an insert just like a DVD case and the manual would be tucked inside just like the manuals in a NPGC case (or a Genesis cart box, for that matter...)

It should snap shut like a clamshell (or, yet again, like a Genesis cart box)... None of that DVD box-esque push, pull apart cheapy feel...

    Boom. There you go.

(Did I mention I love NGPC clamshells?)
I agree with you 10000000000%! I also share your love for the NGPC clamshells. They are the pinnacle of game packaging, IMO.

I think that those Japanese Gamecube cases look pretty nice too.

I have got to be honest, I really hate DVD cases though. They're too big and too bulky. I am quite surprised that they caught on. I remember how much people hated the Sega CD / Saturn cases, partly because their size and of course mainly because they were so fragile. The DVD cases are not so fragile, but they're still way to big if you ask me. I'd prefer a regular old jewel case to them any day.

But any kind of compact clamshell would be ideal!!!

    A statement worthy of quotation!

    Pretty nice... !

  8. Heh, when I saw this thread I instantly thought of the japanese GC Cases. Still though, I love boxes. I know they get messed up, and they bend easily, ect... Still. I felt like I was getting something special when I bought that Contra box when I was a kid. All that stuff coming out of it. I know it essentially boils down to the same stuff we get today. Still... it just seemed more special. By today's standards GC and NGPC cases are the best.

  9. so... you want a shorter, thinner Genny box?
