Ryan from Mission Hill Online dropped us a line with some details on the upcoming Mission Hill DVD set from Warner Bros. Unfortunately some of the music has to be replaced because of the cost to license it, but the episodes are coming! The information comes from the creator, Bill Oakley, and it gives us a good sense of what to expect:

    * Animatic for "Crap Gets In Your Eyes" (a lost episode), including a reading of the original script, and maybe some pieces of other "lost" episodes
    * Scripts for the lost episodes
    * Four audio commentaries featuring Bill Oakley & Josh Weinstein (creators), Wallace Langham, Nick Jameson and Scott Menville (actors for Andy, Gus and Kevin), and Lauren MacMullen (designer)
    * Clips of early animation, color tests, promos, aborted designs, and other related material (probably 7-9 clips)

This material is all subject to approval, but that's what they're hoping to get on the set, which will include all 13 episodes of the series. Oakley said they're hoping to have it out in November.

Thanks to Ryan for sending the information our way, and to Mark White, who noticed the set on the new WB rebate form posted at Amazon.com (PDF link).

    Nuts.

  2. Unfortunately some of the music has to be replaced because of the cost to license it, but the episodes are coming!
I'm a huge fan of Mission Hill so I'll be picking this up, but the intro music is probably one of the best theme songs used for any cartoon. Not having the original music in the DVD really blows.

  3. I hope they can keep the the title track. It fit perfectly.

  4. They'll do what they can to keep the title theme, and I'm glad to see all of the extras that'll be on the set. I can see them having to change the usage of "Everybody Hurts" for the Real World ep, which would hurt that one a bit. Here's the direct text from Mission Hill Online -
This is direct from Bill Oakley himself, the details for the Mission Hill DVD set. First off, I should let you know there's one disappointing bit. Like many TV shows on DVD sets, some of the music cues ("1 or 2 per episode" according to Bill) will be replaced with "similar sounding cues." The reason is a matter of cost, the licensing fees would simply be too high.

Now, the good news is there will be loads of extras.
Animatic for the entire lost episode "Crap gets in your eyes", including original reading of the script. This is essentially a B&W new episode! And there MIGHT be another act or two, or short scenes from the other lost episodes.
Lost episode scripts will likely be there.
Four audio commentaries featuring Bill Oakley & Josh Weinstein (creators), Wallace Langham, Nick Jameson and Scott Menville (actors for Andy, Gus and Kevin), and Lauren MacMullen (designer).
7-9 short extra video packages of early animation, aborted designs, color tests, promos, and stuff like that.

The set will contain all 13 episodes and is due for release this fall, probably around November.

DVD sales are really the only method of fan support that gets the attention of studio executives.

I already made a thread for Mission Hill on DVD, which has a few MH-related links in it. -

  6. Yeah, i liked the show, but I have seen every ep several times do to CN and my Canadian Satelite hookup to Teletoon. One incomplete episode in animatic form just really wont justify it for me.

  7. Well, there are the scripts to the lost eps, and the commentaries, and the other clips. Ideally, they'll put every lost episode animatic on here, along with the voice tracks.

  9. 30 bucks is priced a bit high for me considering I know almost all of those episodes by heart thanks to CN

  10. It'll be cheaper on opening week most likely, which is when I'll get it. I'm more concerned about them putting 13 eps between two discs, including commentaries. I really hope they don't screw them up with compression.
