Thread: WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2006 announced

  1. PlayStation 2 WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2006 announced

    http://ps2.ign.com/articles/631/631085p1.html

That's IGN's interview on the game. There's now a mixed casket/buried alive match in the game, and you can interact with the casket. The stamina system from Firepro has been aped and is now here, and they're adding some new meters. The cage seems to have actual interaction now, thanks to the irish whip being changed, and you can now do 25 front grapples instead of 16. Many changes to this series have sounded good, but ended up badly done. I hope that isn't the case here.

  2. Does the story mode still suck?

Honestly that's all I care about.

  3. Wow, IGN sure does know how to milk the most popular genre. This report is 2 pages max, turned into a 7 page fluff report. These games never evolve enough for new iterations. We just pay for them because we're suckers.

  4. They are basically Expansion Packs with almost no new characters.

  5. Unlike the N64 games, which featured a shitload of new wrestlers and new gameplay mechanics.

  6. All I want is the stories in No Mercy combined with the free-for-all season mode in the previous smackdown games.

Also Put every fucking character in the damn game. How does Smackdown have 50 guys one year,40 the next and 60 after that?

Cory Ledesma: The way this system works is that most of your core actions take away from your stamina meter, so the harder and more strenuous the actions you perform, the more energy is ultimately removed from your bar. Essentially this makes you exhausted similar to what you suggested with your article on improvements you'd like to see from a couple months ago. During your most tired moments, you'll pretty much be incapacitated -- giving your opponent time to gain an upper hand and beat on you a little bit. The damage done by you won't be as effective either.
This is one of the things in IGN's "wishlist" article that I fucking hated, and they took it. This would be good if THQ and Yukes were competant, but it takes them 3 generations of releases to get one good game out on the market. Lets face facts, Yukes can't pull this off.

Instead of being able to have a good match you're going to be sitting on the ground dead after doing a bodyslam. Or you'll have to spend half the match in headlocks to regain your strength. Also, what about the people with limited to no submission moves? (maybe all they have is punches to the head, groin punches and knee's to the arm)

Terrible, ridiculous idea. The IGN staff is not comprised of genius game designers. Please don't take to heart anything they say, companies in general.

They confirmed that there'd be a "breathe" feature in the game, taken right out of Fire Pro's book. Aside from falling outside of the ring all of the time, this is the most annoying thing ever. After you bodyslam Muhammud Hassan to the ground, as The Big Show, you're going to be forced to breath for 10 seconds to regain composure. If the stamina last a long time, or stretches over a longer period of time this could be alright. But you know Yukes is going to make stmaina regain slowly and drain like a bat out of hell.

Casket, buried alive? Whatever happened to "this is a current product game, so we only deal with current types of matches?" from last year's interviews? could it be they LISTENED to us for once? hehe... glad to hear it... also the Stamina was added to DoR 2 as well. I haven't read this article yet, but I'll get to it later. I just sold Smackdown vs. RAW, so I'll definitely be picking this up since it's by far the most played game for any system I get every year.

People that only care about the story mode really play these games for the wrong reasons, IMO.

But we're also making sure that we're tuning it to be a lot of fun no matter which way they play, though I think that most fans will like the dramatic strategy of the stamina meter.
Shit... THQ saw me coming. This is great. I've completely 180'ed on them. If you can turn this shit off (if it's annoying) and change the game almost completely in terms of strategy then THQ has just doubled the appeal of their games.

Last year was supposedly because of the graphics overhaul, they had to redo all the character models, so they had to cut the roster down a bit to get it out in time. Now that the models were done for most characters, and the graphics aren't overhauled as much, they had time to keep adding more. If THQ let them take their time, and not force them to get one out every year, we'd have a full roster.... but it'd only be "full" up to a certain point, since rosters change so quickly.

Doesn't surprise me since you could play without the dirty/clean meter in the last game.
