This documentary on the mating rituals of the Emperor Penguin, filmed over the course of 14 months in Antarctica, is amazing. If you're lucky enough to have it playing near you (it's only in limited release), check it out.

I'm happy to see a thread on this! Next weekend I'm gonna do everything I can to get money together and then force a shitload of friends to go see it in Houston and eat Freebirds. Its going to be so good!

I read up on how the father stands and incubates the egg for months through deadly cold storms and wind and why his feet do not freeze off. To make a long story short, the blood in their feet continuously and specifically runs in some sort of circular flow so the blood in their toes is always preheating itself nice 'n warm. As a person who believes in God, that sort of thing is amazing and says "design." You can't convince me physiological mechanics like that came about by chance.

Anyways, brilliant little birds. Need to see this docu. The more Morgan Freeman this summer whether it is him or his voice, the better.

It's actually pretty touching how devoted the penguin mother and father are to the chick. In the movie you see how they go to absurd lengths to keep them safe and fed until they can go off on their own, in addition to how upset they get if the chick doesn't survive.

As an atheist, I'll just say that a lack of understanding of various biological processes says more about you than it does about the existence of God. I don't understand the mechanics of how a tiny little metal chip can make my computer work, but I'm not the paragon of knowledge so that really means fuck all. I'd also point out how many species die out every year due to either environmental or predatory forces that they weren't naturally equipped to handle (and thus weren't exactly perfect "designs"), but meh.

ANYWAY, this movie looks awesome. Penguins are adorable.
