identity theft ~ IRON LOST 186 bucks

Someone has stolen my identity online. They have gotten a hold of my debit info and perhaps even my paypal info. Today I got my check statement from the bank and found 5 transactions to www.Finarea.ch adding up to $100 and a $51 to global phone. The statement also doesn't show any paypal deposits so I can only guess that he/she hacked into my paypal and changed the bank deposit address to one that he has access to.

I've already went to the bank and had the debit card canceled and filed something in regards to the identity theft. I would have done more already but I had a dentist appointment that my Dad would not let me break.

Does anyone have any advice on dealing with this?

Also, I think he knows my mailing address too because I got something from globalphone in the mail a few days. I don't know if I kept it because it looked like junk mail.

Any help would be appreciated. I’m so angry right now that it is kind of hard to think.

    Nothing new there.

sucks about the ID theft, though.

  3. I'm sorry to hear that IP. I've been meaning to get a paper shredder (cross cut) for awhile now. I'm not sure what you do when someones steals your info aside from what you did. Hope you catch them.

The best I can tell is the guy was buying stocks from Finarea and probably useing global phone to call them.

  6. Sounds like you may have a trojan or something, maybe a keylogger, on your computer. Sorry to hear it though.

It is either that or the hacked one of the computers that I've done online business with and got the info that way. Is there any good software to protect against this?

  10. This happened to me once. Somebody got a hold of my credit card info and ordered $450 bucks worth of merchandise from like an online underwear vendor (I'm not even kidding). I called the guy who ran the store up and was like "Didn't you find anything odd about a card with a VA address shipping things to Czechlslovakia?"

The good news is that it wasn't much of a problem to get it resolved. You shouldn't be responsible for the charges that went through. They only managed to get my card info, not my address or anything.

Request a copy of your credit report from all 3 of the major credit bureaus in the next week or so. You'll want to be looking for any credit accounts, loan applications or things that look out of place on your report. If you notice anything out of place, contact the credit bureaus and request a notification block on your name and SSN. I didn't actually have to go through that, and while it can be a pain in the neck, it's easier to keep things off of your credit report than it is to get them off. Request another copy a few months down the line, just to make sure things are clear.

Thankfully, I don't really use my debit card online, just my normal credit card. While you can get the money back fairly quickly, having the money sucked out of your main debit account can make for some rough times when bills are due.

Good luck with getting this resolved, it's not something I like to see anybody have to deal with.
