I agree with everyone about 60k a year being a great income. If you can't live comfortably on 60k a year something is wrong. Most people can live comfortably on 40k a year. You're making 20k more than them.

Low interest rates of the last several years may have contributed to that, but don't forget the enormous equity gains that may have been achieved in this crazy market, gains that will likely not be completely diminished by a market adjustment. Also, there's a whole lot more to those purchases than an unreasonable desire for status -- kids, space, schools, savings, commute, retirement, crime, and all the other things that are important to living. Those factors and others influence many, many decisions that range far wider than finding a decent house. Not the kind of stuff I had given a moment's thought to when I was young and single.

60k is pretty damn good for someone young like us, but once you get older its not gonna cut it. Thats really what it comes down to. How much is enough money? A little bit more. Funny how money is.

As for me, I plan to work hard, move back to LA, work on some sort of professional designation, etc. etc. I will hopefully get this great job around here which will be perfect for me at this point in my life. I also want to write a book at some point on something, I havent quite decided yet (though I have ideas).
