Thread: Threadless increases bounty on winning t-shirt submissions

  1. Sats, if you want to win at threadless, you're going to have to do more with the shirt than you have currently. I think the design is too big for the shirt, and if you want people to vote for it, you're going to have to either be more clever or more elaborate. Perhaps having three different faces on the oni. You've got a very nice illustration there, but the shirt needs to be pushed further if you want to grab people's attention.

I mean, you look at the printed shirts and they're all either simple illustrations with some very clever words or extremely elaborate illustrations with little or no wording.

[edit] giving it a second look, maybe the design isn't too big... I can't decide.

Yeah, there's a lot more misses than hits but they still get some good stuff. Much better than the crap t-shirts most stores sell (current t-shirt industry slogan: "No design left unbesmirched by stupid unneccesary text."). And they have good prices, even moreso when they run a $10 sale.

Sats: I like the design but I have to agree that it's a little too big. Also, and this is personal preference, I abhor white tees.

That's true, if you're only looking at what's available at your local shopping mall.

I just take one look at what Tank Theory and GrnAppleTree are printing and I shake my head at the amount of crap that Threadless is putting out.

But yes, the pricing definitely makes threadless an excellent impulse shopping site.

You added some stuff in translation but, yeah, usually Ironplant is creepy when I see him interacting with the girls on TNL. It's not just Satsuki. Anyway, I like the design. I think you should make a wallpaper closeup of his hollywood smile.

lol. Calm down man I'm just harmlessly ribbing you.

That's a good idea with the different faces. I like the size of it. I imagine looking down while wearing it and seeing a splash of colour across my chest. It's different, but that's not a bad thing. I like your multiple face idea, but I'm not sure if it goes with the theme. I, personally, would have duplicated the demon like crazy and made a pattern out of a vast army of them. But these are just personal tastes based on an already pre existing design. Everyone has their own idea of what works and what doesn't with smaller details.

  9. I appreciate the suggestions on everyone's part. I don't expect this to win especially- for the most part it was just a personal goal to get something submitted in general.

    few things-
the design isn't that big, I measured it out with a series of complicated stretches and ruler bends. It is bigger than your average "logo" design, yes. However, I wanted it that way for the same reason I pasted basically the same three things in a row- it doesn't look like everything else on the market. (I suppose- everything has basically been done before, so it doesnt really matter in the long run.) If it wasn't a rule breaker(I think the max height is 13x13) I wouldve plastered them all over the shirt from top to bottom, basically. I probably will do my own design on my own time, the 4 color limit is somewhat obnoxious. Oh, also- I have an alternate design where it is three different business people- but once again, violates the 4 color limit.

But overall, I think it's more of an experiment than anything. I haven't been using Illustrator that long and it definately shows. Threadless is kind of a crapshoot, and if i truly wanted to pursue something design wise I could sell I doubt I would go through them first. So it's sort of a "eh, we'll see..." type thing.

If you put one of the dolls on the lower left of the t-shirt and put some french curves around it you'll win.

I too plan on doing some threadless shit and seeing what happens. Vote for me.
