I think he needs to see El Taunto.

  2. El Taunto would make him cry, followed by him flying into a cry baby rant about how MvC2 is superior because it doesn't have throw ticking and kara throws.

I think the problem is just that Razor is the MarkRyan of fighting games.

  3. Sl1p, I try my best to understand what the hell you're talking about but it seems I'm failing. What the fuck are you ranting about this time? I didn't mention you at all in the post you quoted.

You can have that without parries though! I never really did like the parry system. It completely eliminated any kind of distance or trapping game, and while it didn't totally negate anti-air attacks, it made jumping a great deal safer than it needed to be.

What do I want out of SF4? A smaller, more varied cast for starters. I'm not talking CFJ small, but definitely not CVS2 or MVC2 big. Vary the fighting styles you see represented and make some new ones. I don't want to see a guy with a tennis raquet or something in there, but I don't mind a few oddballs or hybrids.

Get rid of the damn systems. I liked the groove concept at first, but now I think I'd rather chuck the idea and have a smaller set of universal game features that everybody has access to, but maybe have it executed slightly different per person to add some flavor to each character. Back to the dash/run concept, give some characters a quick dash forward, while some can continually run, some hop forward, allowing them to hop behind characters, and so on. Hold onto the idea of more mobility, but tweak it per character, not per system.

Let people have their supers and something like EX moves. I liked the idea of EX moves because it gave players something else to do with their super meter. Couple supers per person though, we don't need 3-4 supers for everyone. And it doesn't have to be a super-d00per fireball. Ken's kick super from the 3 series was neat, and something that really made him stand out as a different character. Keep that concept going.

Don't mess with the fundamentals of the game, ie: how to BLOCK something. One of the hardest things to do in MVC2 is to figure out how to block whatever your opponent is throwing out at you. That's ridiculous, and makes it that much harder for anybody new to get into the game.

Over time I've come to accept parrying and can deal with them. In 3s they fixed a few fatal flaws that parrying had in 2i (namely universal overheads were built in auto selects for low parries which meant the low/overhead game in 2i was completely broken.) But when people get really good at parrying, which isn't hard to do, it does harm the game. If parrying had a slightly tighter window or I dunno, were just a touch harder to pull off, maybe they'd be ideal.

Yup, this too. There is no distance game or space control in SF3. The entire game is played at footsie or closer distances and is all about poke into combo.

Always block away from your opponent, regardless of direction of attack. This confuses people like once or twice then their fine. I've never heard anyone complain about this.

A lot of setups in that game can be pretty difficult to block, and I really think that's a problem, especially when you were talking about a Magneto buzzing around your head.

I got into the dicussion a couple of Evolutions ago. We were talking about what made Justin Wong so good, and we came to the conclusion that he could block better than anybody else who was playing the game at the time. Stuff that normally confounded most people he was able to defend and counter pretty much perfectly.

Also, hopefully they will stop dumbing down throws. They've been shortening the range on them for version after version, and now we're in a situation where they're almost never used, or are almost detrimental.

"According to Akiman's homepage, Capcom sold all the rights of the Street Fighter series to Capcom of America.
After Udon making the illustrations for CFJ, this shows even more the disinterest of the Japanese company for one of their biggest franchises. On the other hand, it may also be the only way for us to get new SF games in the future.
Still, was it REALLY necessary to do it on the year of the "15th" anniversary? "

Yeah, that goes back to the blog entry -- which thus far is the only thing anyone can point to.

Not really proof of anything though.
