Thread: Capcom: Street Fighter 4 is in the works.

  1. I see no reason why a u.s. developer wouldn't be able to make a great SF game, given that they have access to the source code for the entire series.

It's not like they'd be starting from scratch.

  2. Japanese developers are really fucked up about keeping the source code to old games, though, from what I've heard.

I almost doubt Capcom has anything older than Third Strike saved. Not that they'd need anything else.

I didn't say there was (although I've had some fun with non-japan fighting games), I said people like you won't even give it a chance because it wasn't made in Japan. Apparently I'm 100% dead-on. And funny how all this ties into my original statement about how it's financially retarded for Capcom to make a new SF because it won't sell.

    Fucking amazing!

This thread is like some shitty Tom Clancy novel that I already know the ending to, but it's just so laughable I have to keep on it until the very end.

Actually I would give it chance -- I give just about everything a chance.

That said I have zero expectation any US developer can put together a top-tier fighting game, that will hold together with long-term, high-level play -- and history backs me up. The experience isn't here. Spending months balancing, tweaking and tuning a fighting engine to perfection does not mesh with market-driven, get-it-out-the-door game developement.

The Street Fighter series is the pinnacle of fighting games. Are you really confident a team with no experience can live up to that standard?

I'd rather have no Street Fighter than a piss-poor Street Fighter.

Yeah but we've already had a few piss poor Street Fighters, so mine as well take the risk on a new one.

That or Capcom Fighting Evolution 2.

  7. CVS2 = Awesome, right up there with 3rd Strike, I even like CVS2 better (waiting for the flaming...)
SVC Chaos = Awful. SNK can't do SF, shit, SNK can't even do SNK anymore. What ever happened to GMOTW and LB2 greatness? This should not be hard to reproduce, and SVC Chaos should not have sucked as bad as it did. The lack of good 2d fighters is gonna take me back to Tekken, something I'd rather not do.

  8. When you have to rely on SNK to update the sprites of your characters (SVC Chaos) then you have a fucking problem.
    Time for a change

Uhh, since when is "market-driven, get-it-out-the-door game development" only synonymous with the US market? In fact, Id say Japanese are a lot worse with that shit nowadays. Especially since I can point to several American titles released in the past few years that have been polished to near perfection (HL2 and War3 to name two).

Look, Japanese people suck at FPSes. They cant make them. Look at the evidence, Maken X and shit. Or at least that is what we said, until Breakdown came out. Yea, it wasnt perfect, but it was a fine FPS all the same, and far far better than we all thought Japanese had a right to make in that genre.

If the Capcom USA people really were making an SF4, theyre not stupid. They are probably smarter than you. They know how much the Street Fighter franchise means in the grand scheme of things and they know that #4 means a lot of things. They rose up to the challenge with Maximo. Theyll get the right people and Im sure itll end up fine.

Quite frankly, I think the biggest problem is dumbass know-it-alls on the internet saying "AMERICANS CANT MAKING FIGHTERS OMG!!! *explode*".
