The latest edition of UK gaming magazine Xbox World 360 features a brand new preview of Capcom's upcoming Resident Evil 5, which reveals a number of new gameplay features. Chief among them is online co-op throughout the entire game.

Protagonist Chris Redfield will be joined by an as-of-yet unnamed female character who will be controlled by the AI by default, but a second player can jump in any time to take over. This includes an online mode, where the second player can jump in and out any time. Unfortunately, no details were given about whether local or split-screen multiplayer will be included as well.

Gameplay wise, RE5 looks as though it is taking some cues from recent blockbusters and incorporating some of the features from those games. Jumping on the Gears of War/Uncharted bandwagon, the game will also feature a new cover system, which will allow players to shoot around corners. Additionally, characters can duck and dodge via the right analog stick, a la God of War.

Story-wise, the game will indeed take place in Africa, although it will be in an unidentified country in East Africa. Several classic Resident Evil characters will be returning in this installment, including Albert Wesker and RE2's Sherry Berkin.

And, while the preview unveils some cool new gameplay features, it also ends on a very disappointing note, confirming that we won't be able to get our zombie shooting on until sometime in 2009.

Online co-op, OUTSTANDING. But not so sure how I feel about a cover system and an AI person with you the entire game. Though I have faith in Capcom, especially after RE4 being so amazing.
