If you're so disgusted by the current politicial on-goings then you can work to change it. There's plenty of options, especially in today's world of weblogs and whatever.

Exactly how does one make things better? Vote in people that will do a good job? What do you do when your two or three options are all corrupt and/or stupid assholes?Originally Posted by diffusionx

You make it sound really easy, but it obviously isn't. If it was, things would never get bad. Someone would always rise to the occasion to fix things.
It may just be my own paranoia but I have to wonder if certain groups would even let things improve. Some things in the past 40 years have been boggled so badly, you have to wonder if it wasn't done on purpose for some corrupt reason. If a person did try to fix things I wonder how long they would live.

The guys over at www.dailykos.com (to give you one example) are definitely rewriting the rules and working to change things they dont like. Much can be done.
If you're interested in running for office, start small. Run for your town council or some shit. Most of the time these things go unopposed and its right there in your community (believe it or not, I am cribbing this from Michael Moore's book, which I read a couple years ago, but its a really good idea). At that point do you yourself have to run for office? I think that one of the only way we can solve our politician problems is to pay them a much smaller amount, like $80,000. I think that this would help weed out the people who were just in it for the money.
Politicians don't exactly make a huge salary though
I mean, the President makes what, 250 grand or so
You can make far far more money in the private sector, especially with the personality traits you need to be a successful politician (tenacity, likability, determination, confidence, etc. etc.). The only way you become rich in politics is by being corrupt.I think that one of the only way we can solve our politician problems is to pay them a much smaller amount, like $80,000. Exactly. Money doesn't keep people from going into politics; if anything, it prevents them from going into politics.Originally Posted by diffusionx
Our state legislature pays $27,000 a year. As a result, it's overrepresented by aging housewives, retired blowhards, and political cranks with too much time on their hands.
