  1. So you major in "calculous"? That is awesome

No, computer Engineering and soon to be Electrical Engineering. I'm about to take my forth and final class of "calculous"

  3. What a waste of time. They don't even have computers or electricity in Mississippi

    heh, you're such an ass.

  5. Doesn't linear algebra require some calc prereqs, though? Eh, I guess maybe not intro.

Well that's like, your opinion, man.

  6. The first linear algebra course I took in university didn't require any calculus, and it really covered a lot of ground.

  7. I took two linear algebra classes, I dont think any calculus was involved.

No, you're uneducated, stupid, and talking out your ass. Calculous is the math of change. There is a reason why anyone who uses math in the real world has to take some form of calc in college.

If they are teaching him opimization, but are not teaching him some calc, then they are shorting him some useful tools.
    You're actually wrong here.

And you know what, Calculus isn't the be-all end-all. Most of my math classes used very little to no Calculus.

He'll learn more optimizations in Calculus class. The class he took had plenty of problems and theory without Calculus. If it was so fucking important to know calculus before you do any optimization it would've been a prerequisite. Stop being an ass.

importantce doesn't have a lot to do with the order in which people learn things. People learn things in the order that they can handle it. He doesn't know calc yet, so they aren't going to include it in the class. The same can be said basic college physics classes.

I wasn't trying to be an ass to him, I was just saying that he wasn't getting the entire story (which might explain why the class is hard for him). I told burky that it was bullshit so he wouldn't feel so bad about not doing well. I was however being an ass to Joust who was argueing with me about linear algebra teaching all there was to know about the subject. It's a big subject that isn't covered by just one or two types of math.
