    Early cartoons

Anyone here watch/watched any of the really old cartoons that they no longer show on tv? I'm talking about black and white cartoons and early color cartoons.

Right now I'm watching a laserdisc of betty boop cartoons. Me and my older sister used to watch these cartoons a lot when we were really young. I think they would play them on cinemax back in the 80s. I'm not really sure.

i had forgotten how tattily awesome these cartoons were. Many of them have blues and jazz soundtracks. So far I've seen Louis Armstrong and Cab Calloway do 3 or 4 sound tracks.

The imagery, man. The people who came up with these cartoons had to be on something really fucking good. So far I've seen a boat motor turn into a dog and legs turn into trees. I've seen Louis Armstrong's head flying around trying to eat Bimbo (little dog). Right now I'm watching birds dunk a cat into a lake.

I had also forgotten how racist these cartoons portray tribal black people. They all look like Mr. BoBo from DBZ.

  2. It's Popo.

  3. I've always dug the old school Popeye cartoons (both B&W and early color). There was a neat Popeye short where the background was all done using real models..something like that. Basically its animation over some 3D/Cardboard background.

ok..found a link for the old Fleischer Popeye toons.. I was talking about the "Sinbad the Sailor" short and the process is called "stereooptical/rotoscope".

From what i've been reading, some the best cartoons were made before some sort of code was adopted by the entertainment industry. It forced cartoons makers to be less wacky and made it where black musicans couldn't score anything that white people would see.

  5. Yes early cartoons rule, especially on mushrooms.
Well that's like, your opinion, man.
