For the uninitiated, this movie is about a gay hustler and an alien abductee and how their paths cross. This movie is getting quite a bit of attention down here because there is a large mob who want it banned. After hearing all of this nonsense and some very positive reviews, I went to see it to see what the fuss is all about.

This movie is amazing. The subject matter is handled so maturely and respectfully. It doesn't villify pedophiles, though it doesn't sympathise with them either, and the nasty stuff is shot unexplicitly without ruining the flow or reality of the movie. This really could have gone terribly wrong, but due to some very tight film making its ultimately uplifting and surprisingly light hearted despite its very dark themes.

I really don't see what the big deal is. Sure, there are some scenes that would make supermario's penis shift a little, but its not like its hardcore porn or anything. They're also concerned that it'll be a how to guide for pedophiles everywhere, but i think thats bullshit and its nothing that they couldn't figure out themselves (attract children with videogames? OMG GENIUS).


I would recommend it to anyone, just don't watch it with your family...

I saw this at the Houston Angelika (snuck in after March of Penguins) and felt like an ass because I liked it so much and didn't pay. So I rounded up some friends to see it again. I love this movie so much. Never ever thought I'd hear music by Ride and Slowdive anywhere else but my own headphones. I just about cried everytime a song I recognized played. I want this on dvd now. Might wanna change the wording of the beginning of your post because it gives away some of the story, even though its easy to figure out and the trailer pretty much spoils it.

I edited my post, though I thought it was pretty much established stuff by the first 5 minutes of the movie.

Yeah, the music is pretty sweet, but I fucking love the way they use it in the flashbacks. I dunno, it all just comes across so real.

So this movie is still in theaters? I was under the impression that I caught it just at the end of its run about a month and a half ago. *impatiently waits on dvd* Maybe I should grab the book...

It just came out in Australia, and I think its gonna get banned very soon.
