Lol, yeah, but it's always silly because PSX had been out for how long by the time either of those hit? I mean even if you're completely ignorant you know the PSX had 3D games as soon as it came out, even platformers. Jumping Flash anyone?

  2. not looking for most popular, just the first. There were many games before Mario that were 3D polygon go anywhere games.

  3. Dozens, of course. Like most of the 3D games up until that point. It's a completely retarded distinction, because it sounds like it means "A game where your 3D movement is limited only be the game environment". Which is like any game with real 3D movement at all, because there's no game where you can really go anywhere.

  4. Isn't nearly any 3D game a "go anywhere" game by the definition you guys are going by (unless its like on rails, or a puzzle game or something)? When I hear go anywhere though I don't think of Mario64. When I hear "go anywhere" I think of one massive world that you can travel from one end to the other pretty seamlessly. You can't do that in Mario64, you have portals that you enter into other worlds.

Basically, yeah, which is why I'm saying it's silly. The limit is the game's world, and a game like Alpha Waves still let's you "go anywhere" but it's "anywhere" is a tiny little cube.

  6. Well, obviously no game is limitless. But I still think you understand what he is asking.

Which game was the first to allow you to freelly explore an expansive and entire game world freely in 3D. Examples of this gameplay style are the GTA series. Mario and Tombraider do not fit this mold.

But even that's not really the case. Maybe moreso than other games, but no game has a completely fleshed out world either.
