Okay people, listen up, the military cannot deploy on national soil. That's the Posse Comitatus Act and I see no reason for it to be suspended. The police and the national guard will regain control of this situation. Sending in more firepower isn't going to help matters. The fact is, and this is something quoted by numerous law enforcement experts, is that the state government made a mistake when they didn't send in their forces early to establish control before things turned to total anarchy.

Sorry to dredge up old posts, but I missed all the fun...

What I have noticed is that most whites look at a black person and say "OMG he's wearing his hat backwards and is wearing baggie pants, he's a ganger...". If you got mugged sorry to hear that I've gotton jacked to. I just don't liked to to fucking stereotyped just because of it.

It's simple human reaction to group someone into a group based on what they're wearing. If you saw a guy walking around with a deer hunting shirt, you'd think "redneck". If you see someone with an anarchy shirt, plaid pants, and boots, you think "punk". If you see someone with black, thick-framed glasses and a tight-fitting t-shirt with a fake weathered design featuring a witty pun about a state they've never visited, you think "emo".

If you don't want to be associated with a certain group, don't dress in a style they've made popular. It's pretty simple.

Second of all, I can't believe the number of douchebags running rampant throughout this thread. New Orleans has turned into some kind of aquatic anarchistic warzone and you fucktools have nothing better to talk about than some "how to be PC to the negroes" bullshit. In light of what's happening, who gives a fuck if someone says "keeping it real" some shit that might be "black slang?" Fuck you. People are dying and/or homeless.

Anyone looting or shooting at rescue workers should be killed on the spot, and the Government should get the fuck off their lazy asses and get all the help and aid they can to those in need. The level of nationwide response to this event disgusts me.

I mean, it's unfortunate that these people are doing their race a disservice on the 50th year anniversary of the civil rights movement. But, they're poor. That's why they're still there, that's why they're looting and shooting.

I heard the mayor of New Orleans earlier today rip on the politicians at Washington for not getting off their asses (ZOMG, the mayor said "ass"!) and providing help as quickly as possible. Parapharsing "They can give the president unprecendented powers to go into Iraq lickety splick (he said splick), but they can't come in and help Louisana immediately with all the people dying? Come on!"

Want to know why some people are looting hospitals? There's a big drug problem in New Orleans, and since the flood has cut off the drug supply, you've got crazed drug-depraved junkies doing whatever they can to get a fix. I was completely shocked when I heard the NOLA (ZOMG, new hip abbreviation, everyone use it now, it's awesome) mayor admit this.

Oh yeah, and a chemical plant exploded. Real fun times.

New Orleans police officers told CNN that they needed the manpower earlier in the week to prevent the looting and violence now prevalent in the city. The situation is now much worse because among the first items taken from stores, according to the officers, were guns -- turning unarmed thieves into armed gangsters.

Police were reduced to looting ammunition from stores themselves, to keep it off the streets.

The only good news from this whole situation is that Dave is ok reached his 5,000th post on TNL.

It really is sad, what is happening within New Orleans. I've been to the city about half a dozen times on business. The city is predomininatly black, so it doesn't come as a surprise to see that most of the looters are of that color.

Loiusiana is a poor state, much like Arkansas. This state was in dire need of help from outside sources, long before this tradgedy happened.
