Thread: Sonic Riders

  1. The game's vague resemblance to F-Zero is slightly encouraging. But no, the new characters don't look good.

...That purple fuck on the top right of the characters section reminds me of that "extreme" dog from the Simpsons.

  2. Funny, I feel the same way about Sonic in general.

  3. The thing is, Sonic's always been marketed as an "extreme" mascot. Technology hsa finally caught up enough in recent years for Sega to make this that much more obvious, but the fact remains that we've had a lot of time to get used to Sonic and his edgy friends. These new characters are new extreme, and thus seem a lot more blatant and forced. Or at least that's how I feel.

Alternatively, you can always just pretend I said whoever's doing the character designs for Sonic Riders sucks.

    Why would we pretend?

  5. I knew that post was a bit redundant when I made it, but it was late and I didn't feel like changing it. :x

    Where am I missing screenshots?

    Nevermind. Found them.

True however Sonic had a sense of style and attitude that made him very appealing. Maybe it was becuase of the great gameplay his games had or the little things he did during the game, but he had a personality. Same for Tails and Knuckles.

However a lot of the new characters sega are introducing now just feel like wallpaper. No attitude, no style, no personality. You only sense they were unique characters when you select them and they say some catchphrase.

IGN isn't always wrong. Meta-Critic is not showing much, but the reviews seem universally bleh... and I think they are being too nice. The game is slow (wtf it's Sonic), the controls are sluggish, there's this stupid air/fuel mechanic that slows you down every time you do anything, the track design blows (and there are only six of them), the trick system is absolutely uninspired (it's like a dumber version of SSX), and the AI is rubber-banding at it's finest (although that's somewhat justified by the shitty track designs -- under the right conditions, you can take shortcuts good for knocking off 20-30 seconds).

Frankly, this game has no reason to exist. Knowing what little I know about Yuji Naka, I honestly wonder how he has not killed either himself or the rest of Sonic Team yet.
