I guess I should have mentioned that.
The only person that I know personally who had played it was comparing it to Omega Boost, which he claims has held up much better in the graphics department.
Play S&P on the Xbox, gets rid of the blurriness and you've got better analog sticks. Unfortunately the triggers will be a bit harder on your fingers as they weren't built for the rapid-fire slashing/shooting this game requires.

I'd love a sequel, lord knows this game deserves it.

  2. S&P doesn't emulate great, nor does it handle especially well on a controller other than the N64's.

It emulates perfectly, aside from how a certain filter during specific cutscenes doesn't work.

Works great on the Xbox. Aim with the right stick, dash left and right with the d-pad, shoot with the right trigger and jump with the left. Fairly standard controls in this day and age.

The sky in the first level is pretty messed up, and there's some garbage textures and such and effects that don't look right. It's nothing too huge, but it's enough to bug me.

Eh, yeah. It's not a big deal if you're not looking for it, it just comes off as a slightly funky horizon if you stare at it. Even so, a couple of small graphical issues that don't affect the game are hardly enough for me to say it doesn't emulate great.

  6. It's enough that I'd still say it looks best on the N64, even at a lower resolution and all.

  7. I think it looks way better without the blurring and in 480p but to each their own. That's also why I'd rather use the Xbox for Mario 64 and have ZOoT on my GC instead of the N64, any graphical issues that were designed to stay hidden are a tradeoff to me for the clarity.

[edit] Granted, I've become so anal about that sort of thing that I was absolutely appalled that Darkwatch on Xbox does not support even the hardware video scan switch (it has to be played in 480i, no exceptions). That actually ticked me off a bit, no excuse whatsoever for that lame crap. I just hate my games looking blurry, it's like I'm in constant Smear-O-Vision.

  8. Slightly OT...

I haven't been playing games for some time, what games has Treasure released in the last 2 years or so? Have they released their new gunstar game?

wtf, it's xS... Where have you been?

In the last 2 years, Treasure has released:

Wario World: A solid 3D platformer that feels like a 2D platformer. It's a ton of fun, but it's one of the easiest games I've ever played, which hurts it in the long run.

Dragon Drive D-Masters Shot: It's half rail shooter and half free-roaming shooting action game. It's quite playable, but really ugly, unpolished, and based on a kind of annoying liscense. Worth playing, but not anything special.

Astro Boy: Omega Factor: Extremely awesome side-scrolling action title on GBA that feels like a retread to Treasure's 16-bit days. Tons of bosses, creative levels, beautiful graphics... It's a must-own.

Gradius V: It feels almost like a mating of Gradius and Salamander with some nice twists. Injects a shot of adrenaline into Gradius' heart. Awesome bosses. Maybe too long, with too gentle a curve for the hardcore shooting audience, but still a must-play.

Advance Guardian Heroes: Long-awaited sequel. It doesn't play anything like Guardian Heroes, and it's pretty ugly to boot, but it does have a really solid, enjoyable combat engine. The difficulty curve is a little wacky, too, but all said it's still one of the better beatemups on the GBA.

Gunstar Super Heroes comes out next month, and is reported to rock the proverbial house.
