Thread: Has the XBOX 360 gone to far?

  1. Xbox 360 II Has the XBOX 360 gone to far?

All of the news on the 360 has me a bit worried where MS is trying to take console gaming. At first I was just bitter that they were releasing a version without the HD. I figured it would force game programmers to not use it which in turn would mean not useing the 360 to its fullest potential.

Then I got to thinking a little more about what MS was really trying to do. With the HD option and talk of the 360 having HD DVD a little down the line it has me wondering if MS is trying to make console gaming more like PCs where you will have to upgrade to take advantage of current releases. With the removable face plate it seems like it might make it easier to have "quick change" parts that slip in and out with ease.

This is all just speculation but I can't stop thinking this is where they are headed. I really hope this isn't the case because I'm one of the few that doesn't play PC games because I just can't be bothered with the hassles of upgrading. I enjoy buying the game, putting it in the console, and just sitting back and playing.

    What are your thoughts?

Sadly, I think that is one of our only options left for typical console gaming. I just hope they don't fuck it up too.

  4. I doubt it
the HardDrive would just be too expensive to bundle it with the 360
& all those changes they are making (which are all for the better) are before it has been released so no problem there
when Xbox came out, M$ first concren was to distance itself as much as it came from PC & PC gaming

  5. We'll gauge the PS3 when we see the price tag. It'll be interesting to see the reaction to that news (I say no cheaper than $400).

  6. I don't really mind the price. I don't think $400 is too much for a top of the line product that I'm going to use for 5 years +. The changing specs after release is what has me concerned.

The HD DVD isn't happening before launch last I heard. It was clearly going to be after it was released which equals upgrade.

how can that be your only option for typical console gaming when Kutaragi or how ever you spell his name has allready said many times it's an entertainment system first and a gaming system second

If it's $500, I'll have one day one.

I don't think there'll be much of a reaction. Everyone knows it'll cost more than 360, which is fair since you get more when you buy it. The only way it could really shock people is if they go well above $500, like $575 or something, which won't happen since that's more than it costs to manufacture. I've been saying it'll be initially offered as a mandatory $460 value pack all along.

As for 360 - no, I don't think it'll become like PC gaming. The whole advantage of a console is that it has a huge market because it's easy to use. Microsoft would just be working against themselves.
