Thread: Dragon Quest 8 demo + Keychain FREE

  1. Yeah, they were expensive as hell when they came out. I got mine from Video Game Exchange.

Citizen Kane? Gone With the Wind? Yojimbo? Un Chien Andalou? 2001? I don't trust a reviewer who hasn't seen these.

Clockwork Orange? It'd be nice, but it's not a gigantic strike against him if he hasn't. There are more important book adaptations, more important movies from that era... hell, more important Kubrick movies as well. It's a great movie, no doubt, but every reviewer has at least one "great movie" he hasn't seen for one reason or another.

That said, Dragon Warrior is more of a Gone With the Wind.

The chapter in 4 where you play as Taloon and have to run the item shop is still the best part of any RPG ever.

I'm still pissed off at Enix for not bringing over the remake of 4 after they teased us with the ad for it inside DWVII.

That really has little to do with critiquing a game or movie. I have never played any DQ Game (nor any FF pre 7) and that didn't hinder me in any way when reviewing games. It's nice to have perspective but it is not a pre-requisite to editorial competency (save for the instinces of immediate preceeding games).

I am not the exception to this rule.

It isn't a prerequisite for writing skills but do you really think that someone who hasn't played say Pac-Man or Super Mario Bros. is qualified to give review scores for games or even deserves to write about them? There has to be a certain level of knowledge and experience in a gamer for his opinions to be taken seriously. Where do we draw the line?

Was that really necessary? And AGAIN with the wrestling bashing. Christ dude, move the fuck on. Some of those games you bash (without playing, I'd wager) have won fighting game awards (the N64 Aki ones come to mind), while others (like the Fire Pro series) are held in high regard by fans across the world, and by many in gaming and wrestling.

As far as having reference for RPG reviews, I've played just about every major RPG series that has interested me. Have I missed some? Definitely, but I'm sure everyone has. I also steer clear of reviewing things I don't feel comfortable covering due to not having experience with a given series, regardless of the genre.

    omg TNL epics!

  9. Awesome, thanks for that link. I already have a PlatKing (the one in the upper-left corner in the pic on the site), so if they send me that one, I'll give it to someone else.

  10. has anyone here heard the music/bought the soundtrack for this game yet?
