Bungie doesn't consider the books canon so missing those wouldn't nessecarily mean anything in regards to what they're doing for Halo 3's story.

Really? I read some shit before about a "Halo bible" that Bungie has, which holds all of the general story elements that the books and games are based on. IIRC I might have even heard about it from the Halo 2 LE DVD but I might be mistaken there.

You never gave a shit about Halo's story though. Halo has a really great backstory behind it as long as it doesn't revolve around Halo 2. The books especially.
