Thread: The Silent Night Deadly Night thread.

  1. Come to think of it, the first one did generate a lot of controversy.

If you do happen across it, look for the scene with the kid and his grandfather in the mental hospital. My friend and I watched that part about a hundred times. Look at Grandpa's forehead - it looks like his blood vessels are about to explode.

Mom and dead leave young Billy alone with his grandfather, who has been silently staring at the wall for God knows how long. Suddenly, Gramps comes alive.

"You scared, ain't cha? Well you should be. . . . When you see Santa Claus tonight, you better run, boy! You better run . . . for y'life! . . . the naughty ones - he <hissing>pun-i-shes</hissing>!"

Then he goes back to staring at the wall. An absolute classic scene!

  2. Oct. 7th, 2003 Is the tentative street date for Anchor Bay's Silent Night Deadly Night part's 1&2 double feature DVD. I can't wait!

They may disapear for a bit, but you can bet they all will get a DVD release sooner or later.

DVD has been great for obscure films. I've bought tons of stuff that a few years ago I would never imagine I'd see re-released.

  6. Uh-oh

Anchor Bay's Silent Night Deadly Night/Silent Night Deadly Night Part 2 Double feature DVD is out. I picked it up at Borders for 14.99. The first movie has an audio interview with the director conducted by Going to Pieces: The Rise And Fall of the Slasher Film author Adam Rockoff, who also wrote the liner notes in the DVD booklet.

There's also a feature called "Santa's Stocking of Outrage" which is a collection of excerpts of scathing reviews and angry letters from concerned parents, including an extremely pissed off Mickey Rooney, who ironicly starred in Silent Night Deadly Night 5: The Toy Maker.

The first film has all of the excised gore reinserted into the movie making it the most complete version of the film ever released.

Side two of the DVD is the inferior Silent Night Deadly Night Part 2. This one has a trailer, some storyboard, and a commentary track that goes into MST3K territory at many points.

Overall a great disc and must have for fans of slashers.
