Thread: Dragon Quest 8

  1. another thing....the game seems a bit...easier than the demo. it felt like it took me longer to gain levels on the demo than it does here. maybe i'm wrong.

The combat is exactly the same, as is the experience gained per fight.

  3. i guess i'm feeling that way 'cause i played through the demo like...2wice.

  4. Picked it up yesterday. Looks sweet in RGB. =) Not quite as eye-pleasing as WoW with the settings cranked up (which is basically all I've stared at since July), but eh, it's PS2. The stop-go soundtrack during the battles was a little annoying, but I'm sure I can get used to it.

Another little tidbit - the menu system runs at 60fps. The rest of the game caps at 30. WTB [Vram for PS2] pst.

Do you have to fight the first boss? He asks you if the crystal ball is yours, I said yes, and he goes apeshit on me. Is his reaction the same if you're honest? Also, I didn't bother fighting the little hammer dude since I remember them from DQV, and they have NASTY-high critical hit rates.

It managed to pull me away from WoW for 3 hours, so yeah, the game's good. Anyone play the FF12 demo? Seems like a cross between FFT and an action game. Think I'll pass when it comes out, it wasn't very fun.

well.... if you say the crystal ball isn't yours he goes back into the waterfall. when you try and take it again he comes back and is all "have i asked you this bethree?....i mean before?" so you pretty much have to say yes to get the ball from him. and the hammer guy guarding the door....i got past him without fighting him the 1st time. then i came back and he was all "you think you can take me on?" all he did was psyche up for a round or 2, but by then i had killed him. i was around lvl 7 when i did that

i'll play the ff demo some time this weekend. i don't wanna take any time from dragon quest.

It's a Japanese RPG, of course you do.
(to its credit, though, the game is fairly non-linear, I just get a little irritated with pointless yes/no questions)

  7. I don't think I'll play the FFXI demo until I beat this game. I don't want to cut into DQ8 time. It's weird, I'm psyched about this game, but not nearly as psyched as I was when I played VII. I remember when VII came out, I played it 10 hours a day. Probably because it was the first DQ game in the US since the NES's IV.

It'll be interesting to see how the casinos are this time around. I remember Poker seemed to be in every DQ.
You don't have to be smart; you don't have to know the facts, you just have to be confident.

  8. i'm at a point in the game where jessica will soon join my party. i was a little worried about her voice before i heard it...i didn't know what to expect....but it's really well done. she sounds like....a real woman. well...i guess that's just good acting on her part. the voices never seem forced or anything. it's so refreshing.

another thing i love about this game? being able to switch weapons during battle WITHOUT loosing a turn.

i have a question, though. i can purchase/use spears now...but should i focus more on spears than swords? they're strong and all but...yeah..i dunno.
