Dragon Quest 8

i'm a kindda a noob when it comes to certain RPGs and have a small ity bity question regarding DQ8

i have been playing it for 3 hours(and loving it), but i still can't find my decreasing exp point to tell me when im going to hit the next level! i know in the stat there is an EXP stat that increases as you fight, but, but ican't find the "next level up in xxx EXP point" option?

btw, my characters are at level 5 or 6 i think.

and last, why is the main charater just called "THE HERO" why doesnt he have a name like most hero's in RPGs, i hate having to call my main character names! i mean everyone in the game has a name, but why not the main character?

and gosh do i hate the english accent on the fat dude.

sorry i forgot to mention that i know i could do that through a priest, but why not during the game when im out in a field for example(lik every other RPG)?

EDIT: oh and saving at priests is such a pain to have to travel back to a town to save in a church and stuff!

I don't know why they do it that way, but obviously if the preist offers the service it's becuase you can't get that information anywhere else.

He was my favorite, probably the only character that I enjoyed having around. I love English slang.

For the same reason the world map doesn't have the names of towns, towns only identify themselves by signs half a country away, and that there appears to be only one person in the world that can give you a skill point count. And I have no idea what that reason is because those are all retarded decisions.

It's assbackwards but you'll get used to it, I got over that after a few hours.

the english slang is cool by me(i got to london every year), but his is a bit too much for to understand at point, so sometimes i'm forces to read the subtitle.

So I'm about to go to Trodain. Every FAQ and the guide recomend that I be at level 19.

I'm level 27.

btw, it's wierd, when i attack enemies it seems like both my characters attack if only tell the first to attack, and the second to defend.
