The technique has been around ever since the N64 version brought drift boosts into the gameplay.

Snaking is a totally legit technique, so please just learn how to do it (it's not really that hard to pick up) or quit complaining about more skilled players taking advantage of advanced racing techniques.

I haven't been online once since I moved back into the dorms last Sunday (no wireless internet), but if I have some time this week I'll try to get in a few matches with you guys from the library or student center (both places have wireless internet). "Stay alert!"

  3. I think dropping at any time is weak, outside of outright cheating... but I can see where Beefy is coming from. Play appropriate to the skill level of your opponent, if they don't dash start and aren't boosting around corners, don't constantly snake and rub their face in how much better you are than them.

If I'm racing a novice, I try to keep close enough to where it's possible for them to come back with a few items. I'll usually throw 'em a win in the second or third race to keep 'em interested; if they're down 3-0 going into the fourth, it's plain to them that they'll get a loss either way, there's no incentive not to drop.

  4. i didnt know snaking was illegal.

also how could you tell if they're snaking, if they're far away from you and you can't see them?

Nothing. It just means they put an "!" in their WiFi name.

Yeah, I wasn't ever into the SNES version, so I didn't know for sure.

But fuck if I wasn't boosting every second I could once I figured out how in Kart 64. I figured it out from constantly racing my own ghost.

Anyway... I can't powerslide (thats what I've always called it) for shit in Kart DS... I haven't even touched it once since I got teh zboz. I hope to get back into it SOON though.

I've been playing since N64 and never knew about that. I don't know how I could miss it either. Then again I was never a premo player anyway.

If "snaking" is the technique of taking a tight turn, alternately pressing right and left while the tires turn colors and you get a boost, I will rethink my approach to snaking. When I see players online snaking, it looks unnatural to me and looks like a form of cheating.

The only thing I've known about is Power slides from MK D.

How do you tell the difference between snaking and lag?
You don't have to be smart; you don't have to know the facts, you just have to be confident.

no, i played with a guy that had "!" only show up in the menus, like when selecting players and tracks, but in game it disapeared.

Although your username max is 10 characters, when you play online, only 9 show up on certain screens (mine would say "Cowdiseas"). If the "!" was the 10th character in the username, then that explains why it disappeared during Wi-Fi matches.
