    LOL
I think you've managed to get it completely backwards.

    Fuck their 'food'.
Well, except their ice cream, which isn't half bad.
Its pretty hard to fuck up ice cream. I don't think McD's can even accomplish that.

They can limit what can connect to the hotspot pretty easily. If nothing else, all DS's probably have MAC addresses within a certain range, so only allow that range in. I'm sure there are more sophisticated means of limiting access that Nintendo thought of when designing the DS.

    This is a great idea.

I can see pulling up next to a McDonalds on a road trip at four in the morning and checking my email and shit with my (soon to be purchased) DS.
There will be a web browser for this system... yes?

  7. Two stupid terms from Slashdot, use them as you will:

    Wi-Fry
    BigMAC Address

As for TCP/IP limitations, reports are it doesnt support those protocols:

    From TFA:
Nintendo and Wayport will offer complimentary Wi-Fi hotspots... enabling DS owners ... to play online games with or against each other."

The DS does not have a TCP stack and has no native support for IPv4 or IPv6 (from http://www.darkain.com/nintendo_ds/nifi.php [darkain.com]):

"The DS does not internally support a TCP stack or any IPv4/IPv6 communications at all. This is why the DS cannot be played online without the use of tunneling... Ni-Fi is a layer 3 protocol on top of 802.11."

802.11x is a network layer, not a magical gateway to "Teh internets"

So it goes to reason that the McDonalds hotspot for the DS won't support regular tcp/ip, as its a hotspot for DS users to play with each other. You probably won't be able to connect your laptop to it.

McDonalds already has WiFi for "teh internets". It is not free.

Never. You think Nintendo wants teachers calling parents because Jimmy brought his portable pr0n browser to school?

There's a media player for it in Asia though. Nintendo seems reluctant to bring it over.

Good point. I forgot about who Nintendo's target market is.
