Shit man, like shit.
For any of you who know about price marketing strategy and shit,
Sony might just actually be able to make the PSP look more attractive and worth it and "high status electronics" and shit so they might actually make tons of money off of this gimmick. Sometimes pricing something higher will actually make people buy it more. If you can make people think it's "worth it" and you'll be kick ass for having it, dumbshits will happily part with their cash, shit just look at dumb shits that bought shit loads of iPods while cheaper MP3 players with smiliar features and storage sat right next to them on the shelves.
Do be smart and realize that Sony has people that know business VERY well working for them and if they didn't think there was a really good chance they'd sell with this new bundle then they wouldn't do it.

I think the weakness of the PSP's software lineup is grossly exaggerated. Yeah, I currently enjoy my DS library more than my PSP, too, but that doesn't mean the PSP doesn't have plenty of great games available.
Way the fuck longer than it did for the PSP. The PSP had must haves the day it was released. It took seven months, not even including the DS's launch month, before it had a game worth owning, imo (Kirby: Canvas Curse in early June, and Meteos later that month.). The PSP has barely been released for as long as the DS's drought was.Originally Posted by Chux
The PSP has been significantly outselling the DS every month since release, often DS and GBA combined. The PSP has already overtaken the DS in total software sales (and no, not including UMD movies), and it was about a month from overtaking the DS in the US overall, but DS may have outsold the PSP in September, because PSP numbers have 'mysteriously' not been released.Originally Posted by Dolemite

I'm on the "I love the PSP regardless if it has any games!" side of the fence, but what games are you referring to? My list reads as such:
1) Lumines
2) Ridge Racers
Edit: Okay, I forgot about Wipeout. Still, I didn't like it as much as others.
My list is even shorter:
Ridge Racer.
Don't get me wrong, I dug that game and beat the shit out of it for 100% completion, but since that time the PSP sits alone in the corner.
Sony should release a $200 barebones pack, for sure, but anyone who thinks the GigaPack isn't a good deal is on crack.
The PSP software library blows for anyone who isn't into racing games.
I seriously don't know how this'd work. They throw out the remote, the headphones, the soft case, the wrist strap, and what? If they don't give you a memory stick, that's $20 right there for a 32MB one. Want some kind of protective case? That'll be $20 or more, and hey, you're right back up to $250.Originally Posted by kedawa

The value pack is pretty bare bones as it is. I didn't get a USB cable or a memory stick larger than 32MB, which fills up damn fast.
You're proposing they throw out the next to nothing you've already got, stuff you will need to spend money on later, and sell the unit alone for $200. I really don't get it. It's like the core Xbox 360 system, which was mocked endlessly, and now you're asking them to do it? I really find it absurd if you can't pony up the last $50 for a PSP and are begging them to throw out the cleaning cloth and UMD demo disc just so you can get one.
A $200 package makes no sense. What do you want in it? The PSP, a battery, and the AC adapter? Won't be saving games without at least another $20 down. Do you really think people will run to buy a product that they can't really do anything with? I guess, by this logic, the bare bones Xbox 360 pack will sell tons. This doesn't make sense, not for Sony or anybody. The $250 package doesn't make sense either, compared to the $300 one, but if they pulled it, of course, everyone would throw a shit fit.
(may edit in the morning for coherency if necessary, desperately need sleep now)

In Japan, the DS is clearly winning, but it isn't by as greatly as is exaggerated on here. The DS regularly outsells the PSP by about 10-15k a week (the last weeks' figures being 29k vs 44k), making for a monthly lead of about 40-50k, which up until last month, had been offset by the PSP's monthly lead over the DS in the US. Most of the months post PSP's launch, even, the PSP has actually sold considerably more in the US than the difference made in Japan, more than merely offsetting the difference.

In Europe (well, PAL territories, but Austrailia doesn't matter, sorry Arjue.), the PSP has already sold a million units, in one and a half months. It took the DS 3 months to do the same, and the last available figure for the DS in Europe was in August, putting it at 1.3 million.
By the end of the year, provided Nintendogs/Mario Kart/bundles/whatever doesn't do unexpectedly well, the PSP should overtake the DS in both the US and Europe.
