I think they just make it look badly optimized.
Also, Grace is still hella ugly.
I think the dots are gimmicky in a "constructive criticism" sort of way not a "haha fag" sort of way.Originally Posted by Andrew
Our final banner didn't have those dots. It was an optimization problem, but it was dealt with. If you need to know.
I don't know what you are expecting with Grace. She isn't a supermodel character, just a regular girl type character... but whatever. I don't know why people who don't like Robobo continue to visit it.
I like the dots. Though it looks like a dismembered stagehand is coming out of the ground rather than being connected to the robot.
Dude, stop bumping the thread and you'll get less visits.Originally Posted by jonas

2. You'll probably just egg the person on by being such a baby about it.

The comic has evolved somewhat since its inception, although I don't protest that work still needs to be done. Grace is one of the first female characters I've ever drawn on my own without a model, so it was a challenge. I did redesign her recently, although I still haven't established a proper character sheet for her.
The banner is too big so we decided to go with a smaller flipping banner instead. The ads were a success and we have about 1000 regular readers now. We put up a special Thursday comic and over 700 people came back the day of to see it so the ad was worth it and we'll be doing it again.
We retained about 60% of our initial advertising traffic, which is a good sign. I had projected it as 30% - 40%.
I'm learning through practice. I am a fan of simpler backgrounds, not only because it takes less time for me to draw, but helps guide an eye or tell a joke better and allows me to spend more time on the characters. Jonas disagree's. I need to spend more time on my perspective, but again, practice and time will help that, which is the real reason Robobo exists. And I'm sure there's a healthy middle ground between simplistic and more complex that I can rest in.

We actually have a small loyal following of about 700. Each comic usually brings in 1000, but our special Thursday update brought in 700 of them. Everyone thinking about doing a comic strip should start. Learn by doing.

edit: btw, do you guys use some kind of PC tablet to draw your strip?
edit: OK, I seriously laughed out loud reading the "Satan Claus" strip.

That is seriously sig worthy. You just earned yourself a new regular reader.

He just beats controllers. We were just trying to do a comic from the perspective of a controller who's owned by an abusive videogame player. He does have robotic strength, but that's not really what that comic was about. And yes, I have an Intuos 2 tablet. I use it to colour and ink the tablet. I used to try and do the ENTIRE comic with the tablet. Now I use the line tool for the straight background work. Anyway, I've had it for years and it works like a charm.
Takes a couple of hours to get used to looking at the screen while drawing, but once you have it down it becomes second nature.
My goal right now is to do a comic entirely with Vanilla Ice lyrics.

btw, the logo annoys me in that robobo is on the conveyor belt going right to left, but the comic is read left to right. And the sub-title is so corny it makes my skin crawl.
Good luck tho!
