That's mainly why I liked it more. I also found the Shenmue I secondary characters more interesting than the ones in II. The slower pacing helped me soak in more of the atmosphere as well. Shenmue II seemed a bit too rushed for my liking.

Agreed with Jeremy and Korly, although Shenmue II did have its high points. I hated the damn QTEs from Shenmue II much more than the ones in the original.
I like to read every sentence of praise for Shenmue as if it was spoken by the shitty voice actors in the games.

I too think that it'll eventually get made. Maybe they'll port the first two over first, jsut to get everyone up to speed, sort of the same thing Capcom did on Gamecube with Res Evil. Then hit us up with the new chapter (or in this case, chapters 7-16 of the story).
I think that Sega has to be in better standings financially, in order for the higher-ups to feel good enough to plunk down the money to develop it. It would help to use a tried and true engine, like UE3. Then most of the money would just go to art assets.
Shenmue Online could be some sort of testing ground; to see if interest is enough, at least in the Asian countries.
Who knows if or when. But I won't say it'll never happen. I won't expect it, but I will be extremely happy if it does.

Slow paced action/fighting rpg transitioning to an MMO envirnment which is notorious for being slow paced to begin with? This does not bode well.
