Late fees I can understand, they're there for a reason. Shit happens, of course, or you lose track of time and you're busy, so you bring it back late. But 6 dollars a day for 4 days late? You get caught in that once and you never want to go back again.

  2. teaches you to pay the fuck attention. people have time to mope around the store looking for movies but they can't find time to swing by and drop it off? they even invented those outside dropboxes for christsakes. would you prefer them to come pick it up at your house?

Actually a 6 dollars late fee for 4 days sounds reasonable.

Are you sure you're remembering that late fee correctly? It was always that if a product was late, the "late fee" is actually the computer system renting the product back to the person. So for a game, it would charge you the 7 bucks or whatever and the game then wouldn't be due back for another rental period (5-7 days depending on when we're talking about). A lot of other videostores did a per day fee (which was usually less than a buck a day, but that shit varies from each store).

Funny thing is when they extended the return date the first time (say you rent a new release movie on a monday, it was due on a tuesday. When they changed it, it was due by noon on Wednesday) that seemed to really confuse the shit out of people even though there are signs all over the fucking place (above all drop slots, on the store windows, on the check out counter, shit hanging from ceilings in the store, on the rental boxes, printed on the reciept).

    Blockbuster can suck a dick.
Truth. I used to do this all the time. Other than that, I've been to Blockbuster at least 5 times in the last two months, they had nothing I wanted, EVAR.

For one, I was like, twelve years old. I couldn't exactly drop it off "on my way to work." Secondly, "teaches me to pay the fuck attention"? What are you, my father? Don't act like things don't happen in the course of a regular week that would make returning your damn game the last thing on your mind. My complaint was with the severity of the fee, not that I had to pay late fees in the first place.

The late fees and the return hours were designed to milk money. Remember when it was "return it before midnight on the third day"? Everyone waits until the last day, and of course, what percent of the people become too tired or involved in something else to return it by midnight?

It varied from Blockbuster to Blockbuster too. The store I described changed it multiple times before they eliminated them. From full rental fee per day to half rental fee per day, etc.

    I agree. 1.25 a day... not unreasonable.

It was six and change PER day, for four days. Came to about 25 dollars. Which I said in my first post in this thread.

  9. Oh. Okay that seems unreasonable.

That's really weird, Blockbuster is about as corporate as you can get so they make terms that are nationwide. Unless they're doing a test market in certain areas.
