Thread: Magna Carta: Tears of Blood * Official Thread *

  1. Just because something experiments doesn't mean the experiment is successful.
HAR HAR~!!! JUST LOOK AT YOU!

All i want is people to give MC a few hours' chance. Playing it for 20 minutes and calling it crap is failing. I'd like to see a rythm rpg with a similar battle system.

I wanted the same thing for Romancing SaGa, but whatever. At least the GAF kids gave it a chance.

And U:S... Too complex for anyone's but my mad figurin' out skillz.

It's not that it was complex, it's that the reward for figuring everything out wasn't worth the effort. I've played much more complex games, but they also do something worthwhile with their complexity. US wasn't a one-of-a-kind game that justified its myriad of systems, it was just a totally generic RPG with a bunch of obscure and counter-intuitive systems.

Still willing to give Magna Carta a chance because I like this kind of RPG, and the mixed things I've read remind me of the mixed reactions to Star Ocean 3, which I enjoyed a lot.

  3. I enjoyed Star Ocean 3 and disliked U:S as well, for whatever that means to you.

And man, did I give U:S a chance. Like three or four of them - and I even enjoyed most of SaGa Frontier (awesome combo system) - but it just wasn't worth it.

I guess the rpg crowd just doesn't care to think. *shrug*
Speaking of which, could you finish DDS2 please?!

And I picked this up today, only played an hour, the tutorials are fairly simple. Don't know how complexe things are supposed to get, but it's a breeze so far.

  5. ;_; You gotta use your imagination! U:S was complex and there was reward! There were so many little things that no one would ever get, like combo hoo ha and scibbledy mahl with creating stuff and items. It's like, "imagine yourself in a house... with a basket of kittens" "Is the king alright?" "We found out later that someone had forgotten to feed Sasafras. The next thing we knew, we were in another dimension and Satan was killing Deerhoof Oh no!" You had to fill in the blanks yourself. And i like that. So nyeh.
So why do i like U:S if it doesn't taste like apples? I just do!

;\ And MC is more likely to be liked by other people. It's gots graphics and walking around.

  6. If I can apreciate Nethack, I doubt US didn't appeal to me because of its abstraction or complexity.

I promised blueskied i'd finish MC before anything else. The tutorials don't really explain everything. It's not THAT complex, it's mainly the timing. The chi stuff is what drags it down. Just remember different attacks under different styles if you run out of chi. =_= Switching members becomes more important as you go. Get used to the combos. They make battles a lot quicker.

... maybe i'm just stooopid and everything seems interesting just to me. ;__; Look! A ladybug! I like bugs. -_- I prefer naieve. Ni Ev.

    ...nethack
isn't exactly rewarding. The work is the reward, and that's part of what i like about U:S. Keep plugging and plugging, and what is there? Pieces of a story that don't even mean much when you put them together. It's what they coooould be that means something to me.
So maybe it just didn't appeal to you. Some people don't like John Coltrane but like Ornette Coleman.

  8. Nethack is John Coltrane. Unlimited Saga is Insane Clown Posse. Magna Carta looks spiffy.

  9. ;_; NO! U:S is Sun Ra.

Mine, too. I'd been looking for a clear review since last week (see p1).
