Battle system is kind of assy
I find the hate for the battle system wierd, since the battles play out almost exactly like Vagrant Story except that instead of being encouraged to not rythymically chain attacks for very long it's now the only way to deal damage. Odd because I don't remember there being much hate for VS, in fact, it was the opposite (along with a lot of comments about ass shorts). But maybe I'm remembering wrong.
In any case, one of the reasons I loved the battle system in VS was specifically because of the chaining attacks so it always annoyed me that doing so was so frowned upon. The way Magna Carta is much the same way only with my one major issue changed to how I wanted it is probably one of the reasons I like the game so much.

Didn't i already say you can't play it for a few minutes and decide it's crap? Yeah, i did. I also said i want a rythm rpg with a similar (but expanded) battle system. I'd import that.

It's been awhile since I've played Vagrant Story, which I played all the way through, but didn't that system allow you to hit even when you missed the subsequent buttons? I mean, from what I see in Magna Carta, if you miss you're screwed. Period. In Vagrant, you would merely cut your chains/combos short as soon as you missed.Originally Posted by MechDeus
It's only 3 button presses, unless it's a combo. The combos are some pretty maddening stuff though. John Maddening.

It was a hit per button, meaning as soon as you missed you lost your chain. Not that it mattered much, performing more then a few hits meant an increase to your Risk and less damage dealt but I still chained a couple early bosses to death doing only 1hp per hit. You could do it forever if you wanted.Originally Posted by haohmaru
Sure, but how often is that going to happen? Once every hundred attacks or so? The normal fighting is really easy, it's only the memorizing of every attack in a style (which so far with me were easy A-B-A-B setups) with altered timing for the combo stance where you'll stand a chance of screwing up badly.I mean, from what I see in Magna Carta, if you miss you're screwed.
