Thread: Shadow The Hedgehog

  1. Don't think they're so overrated. When SA was out on the dreamcast, much jaw-dropping could be seen around the world. I think the game was great and it was the killer application that made me buy the DC (along with PuyoPuyo4).
So it isn't exactly fair to say that they made bad games. Fact is that the MD sonics weren't exactly too good in my hopinion and I always was like when I heard people saying W000T sonic2 is out this is so freakin great - and so on.

I don't see how anyone can think SA2 is ok, even the Sonic levels that people hold up as being the best part of the game back in SA are buggy and stilted in SA2. Just a terrible, terrible game, and this is coming from someone that enjoyed SA enough to get all the medals. Or most of them, I might be missing some shitty ones no one cares about.

  3. I really like Billy Hatcher, but it has some annoying problems.
It's not always clear what you're supposed to do and the hints given by the birds only cause confusion, the difficulty is really uneven, and the controls are a bit wonky.
Also, you have to control the camera manually, although given Sonic Team's other games, that's probably a good thing.

There's something else I just remembered that drove me nuts.
Some of the platforming parts are needlessly difficult because Billy doesn't cast a shadow.

I'll excuse Pepsiman, but the next person that buys this is banned for life.

  5. As much of a Sega whore that I am, I'd probably have to agree that Sonic Team is the most overrated developer in the industry (or at least one of them). Which isn't to say they're bad, but just that what they have produced doesn't stack up anywhere near the level of acclaim that their fanbase has built for them. To me, SA (specifically 1, SA2 was fucking horrible) and PSO are the only titles they've done that I've really loved, and the early Sonics were good. PSU and Sonic DS look really promising, though.

And anyway, Sonic Team really shouldn't be derailing this thread, they're not responsible for Shadow. But on the otherhand, then we'd have to talk about Shadow the Hedgehog.
Buy Yakuza and Oblivion. Help yourself, help TNL.

  6. Xbox uh....

In the credits I noticed this game was produced by Yuji Naka. So yeah feel free to blame Sonic Team for this game.

Hell I'm really starting to like it, some very nice stage variety within each level. In one of the stages toward the end of one path you fly on some alien ship and it plays out sort of like StarFox complete with lock-on missiles. Granted it isn't amazingly implemented but it's competent design. There's also a number of special weapons you get by beating the game on the various paths. I got a uh..emochao gun or something that shoots chao bullets...nasty little buggers.

Also in other Chao related news while going through a haunted castle stage I found a bunch of chao wandering around, so I thrashed them. This really shows where Sega's priorities are, you can kill a couple hundred humans and only be slightly evil, but punch a chao and make it fall over crying and you'll be Satan x2 in seconds.

Of course once the reviews start pouring in they'll all say it sucks and I'll be proven wrong and look like an idiot for liking this game.

but the egg does cast a shadow...

I only had one part where I was really confused what to do, and apparently alot of people got confused at that part. It was a fucking part in the circuis level where I thought you had to push your egg on the rail and you could actually just jump on the rail with your egg.

    I'm out of here.

  10. Nothing Matt Cassimassina says about a Sonic game will ever have any value to anyone.
