It is. He's producer, not executive producer. However, the game is developed in the US, SA2, and SH, so he's not real hands on, but he still has creative input.Originally Posted by Andy

It looks to me like the game is getting panned by reviews and everybody who *hasn't* played it, but the people that actually have it say it's fun. I don't know for sure 'cuz apparently EBgames.com is run by downs-syndrome afflicted apes, but just take a look at the ign score. 4.9 from the reviewer and 8.0 from the public. I know the people there overrate stuff, but that much difference?
The same guy gave Sonic Adventure a 5.0. He's just a tool, and he hates Sonic.Originally Posted by Contra
It seems to me even though the game is out people are still on the "OMG GUNS SUCK HELP" train. I don't get it really, I mean sure at first it was totally WTF when I saw shadow running around with an assault rifle but I can dig it now.
Also I noticed if you hold the R button you can strafe haha. With some reworking of the engine you could probably make a Contra game. At least in some parts it feels that way.
Considering how wonky the homing attack seems to act the guns are a very nice option for dealing with enemies.
And to be disturbingly honest I think the stage designs are some of the best in a Sonic game. Each of the stages feels closer to the early Sonic games (1-3k + CD).
All IMO:
While Sonic Adventure relied on a bunch of setpieces throughout their stages (Shamu escape? weak, Snowboarding? yuck) Sonic Adventure 2 had some decent ideas but the stages just felt slapped together and dull. Sonic Heroes was a mess anyway you look at it, terrible stage design, awful team-switching mechanics, etc.
The stages in Shadow are fairly basic in design. Yeah there's a handful of loops as expected and the setpieces that are there have you in control(Instead of ones where you just hold forward). Also the action switches up from speeding around to gunplay in a nice non-abrupt fashion. So unlike other Sonic games you won't see bad designs like a bunch of rings leading off a cliff or enemies positioned in a way that if you go after them you'll fly off a cliff.
But the game sucks don't listen to me.
http://www.ga-forum.com/showthread.php?t=71868 <--Nearly everyone in here agrees the game sucks, and they didn't even have to play the game to know that.
4.9 is a ridiculous score anyway you slice it to be honest. I'd give a 4.9 to Path of Neo or Magna Carta..but cmon fucking The Bible game scored higher than this? whatever
Glad to hear the level design is solid. That's the most important thing ,and that's where heroes fell apart. Thanks for the impressions.
I rented this today, and the level design isn't that great. Solid? Maybe. Fun? Not really. The random corkscrews are pretty much the only area where you can get some momentum going, and they last for like 5 seconds before you're back to methodically beating up various enemies.
A post I made elsewhere about the game:
The controls are loose as all fuck, for starters. Shadow only has one speed, fast, which can be irritating when you're trying to navigate an area; and in the first stage one of my homing attacks passed a flying enemy completely and sent me plummeting to my death. Hooray for SA2 throwbacks.
The fact that your allies will attack you is stupid. Characters following you around all the time and refusing to shut up is stupid too. Neither of these complaints are relevant if you choose the neutral missions, but if you want to do the other ones you'll just have to get used to them.
The game is more about slow, methodical attacking than speed. I don't mind having a slower pace in certain areas, but so far that's pretty much all it's been. Aside from a few random corkscrews, there haven't really been any areas where the game just lets you cut loose and run like crazy through a large stretch of level.
Level designs aren't very exciting so far. Westopolis was a clusterfuck, and Mad Matrix makes me want to die (brainless "puzzles" you have to stop to perform, that stupid on-rails segment).
I've already encountered a few glitches... passed through a set of bumpers, and a floating platform shoved me off and to my death for no reason once I activated it.
The dub is competant, but a lot of the voices don't really fit the characters.
So far: Sonic Heroes >>> Shadow the Hedgehog.
Pepsiman, thank you for your impressions. Personally, I loved Sonic Adventure 1, thought Sonic Adventure 2 was alright and hated Sonic Heroes, so, to be honest, I am a bit scared about Shadow as well.
I think I need to drop by a Blockbuster and give this a rental, though. What version are you playing? Xbox?
I honestly liked Chaotix more than Sonic Heroes. It's hard for me to imagine this being worse.Originally Posted by Shadow Not Shade

I was thoroughly dissapointed with SA, I enjoyed SA2 but wouldn't call it great, Billy Hatcher and Samba are truly great games. Sonic Team need to stop making 3d Sonic games and do more stuff like Billy Hatcher, they seem to be at their best when they're doing original content.Originally Posted by Frogacuda
