Thread: Shadow The Hedgehog

  1. Xbox 360 II Eh

True the game isn't that difficult. Most of the challenge(aside from pitfalls) comes from solving the hero/dark missions and getting A ranks in them.

Granted unlike previous Sonics the A ranks are far easier to get. I got most of the normal mission ones simply by getting a good time. Hell you could also try to play without getting hit if you're that annoyed with the difficulty.

Oh yeah I'm playing the Xbox version. Gamecube version is supposedly pretty nice but I hate the oddly shaped buttons for anything but exclusive titles. The PS2 version is supposed to be bad framerate hell...so whatever.

    Hilarious story spoilers:
In one mission you attempt to kill the president and at the end of a couple paths you actually kill Eggman

And as far as Sonic Heroes is concerned..I say whatever works for you. Personally I was never a huge fan of the "speed" in Sonic games. Yeah it looks pretty keen but most of the fun I got out of the games was from going through the levels as uh..perfectly as possible(not getting hung up on walls, no deaths, etc). For some reason I find myself more attached to this game. Most of the stuff you pass in the game can be ignored(guns, vehicles, etc) aside from certain cases but hey it's still decent enough for me anyway.

Hell I think this is the best 3D Sonic game, granted that's not exactly a ringing endorsement but the game is definitely worth a shot(oops). For once at least Sonic Team worked on fixing the bugs in the Sonic 3D game engine. I can actually count the number of times I died by a bad homing attack in this game on one hand, hell I certainly haven't died from falling through a floor.

Once the enemy locations are memorized it's fairly smooth going through and IMO I've never had a reason to look straight up. Another nice thing is when you go into Chaos mode you get unlimited ammo. It's a blast(dammit) running through stages slaughtering everything without stopping. And since you're also invincible and killing the correct enemies fills your chaos meter you can stay in this mode for extended periods of time.

Personally I'd pick the Genesis or the Saturn as the best console. Problem with the DC is most of it's library has been ported(and in some cases eclipsed by) to other consoles. It still has Virtual On Oratario Tangram though so it's not all bad.

Yeah, because rolling around on those stupid rails in Mad Matrix for twenty minutes is so entertaining. And I just can't get enough of "beat all the good guys/bad guys" missions, it's so exciting stopping every ten seconds to scour an area for things to hit!

The levels in Heroes were a bit too long sometimes, I'll give you that. But they certainly weren't any more uninteresting than Shadow's, or uglier (unless you were playing Heroes on the PS2, lol).

Didn't play Shadow yet. Just talking about Heroes.

They were at least twice as long as they should have been every time. Not one of the levels didn't reuse it's gimmicky parts at least 4 times. It was fucking ridiculous.

  4. Heroes was the Sonic levels from SA2 with worse pacing, blander design, a ton of filler, and more glitches. It was a beta of a poor game.

  5. Yeah, pretty much. It honestly makes you realize that maybe it was good to have those knuckles levels breaking things up after all, as well.

    Oh.

    Well, Shadow is worse. :x

I can't recall any particularly noticable glitches in Heroes. Did they all happen in the second half of the game?

Also, I hope neither of you liked S&K, because that game was stretched out as hell too. Fucking Sandopolis Zone, ugh.

No, you just got amazingly lucky. The game felt like it was constantly about to fall apart. I'm able to play Morrowind unpatched without a problem at all, and Sonic Heroes was still too glitchy for me to enjoy.

I don't really care for S&K, but it still stuck to levels under ten minutes. The ones in Heroes would just go on and on and on and ON, and it was never justified by the actual content.

Well, the Knuckles levels never really bothered me (they could be beaten quickly so the pain didn't last long), but no, I think a game full of levels at the quality of SA or SA2's Sonic stages would have been just fine. But the levels in Sonic Heroes... ugh.

  8. I....actually kind of liked the knuckles stages. I hope that doesn't completely invalidate my opinion or anything.

And yeah, you *can* pick up rings when you get hit. So, say I have 90 rings and get hit. Now I have 80, but I can run around and grab the ones I dropped too. It's easily the thing that bothers me the most, and it would've been so easy to correct...

    Post fixed.

I thought Sonic Heroes was the best 3d Sonic game yet; from what I'm reading I just might have to pick up Shadow when it gets cheap if only for how terrible it sounds. When I was 13, if you told me there was a game where you play as an evil version of Sonic with machine guns and get to run around killing everything in sight I'd have run out to buy it. Today? I'd run out and buy it if it was good, but alas it is not.

Yeah, I was actually just talking about that with a friend last night, and how we always stop playing that game when we get to Sandopolis.
