Thread: Wolf Creek

  1. Wolf Creek

Just thought I'd give you guys a heads up on an amazing horror flick coming to theatres soon called Wolf Creek.

Based on true events, 'Wolf Creek' tells the chilling story of three backpackers travelling in remote Outback Australia. When their vehicle breaks down they accept help from a friendly local, Mick Taylor (John Jarratt) inspects their vehicle and manoeuvres them into letting him tow it, promising to replace the faulty part at his camp. It takes hours to reach his place: an abandoned mining site complete with defunct tunnels and huts. The travellers cook food in exchange for repairs and fresh water. Mick recalls his life as a professional vermin shooter, and then works on the car as his guests fall asleep.

The next day they wake up only to find they have abducted in the isolated Australian Outback, and they realize Mick has no intention of fixing their vehicle, or of them leaving... ever again.
I have seen this movie, and its pretty much flawless. Incredible as a piece of film making, quite unsettling as an experience. The actor that plays the serial killer did such a good job that Quintin Tarentino is penning a role for him in his next feature. The only complaint people have had about it is that its too fucking scary. Its affectiveness is found in its uncomprimising realism and unstructured plot.

I believe this actually comes out on christmas day over there, which is oddly timed, but seriously, you just have to see this film.

    This sounds like TCM.

  3. well, if there was a movie most similar to wolf creek, it would be TCM, however they're very different.

  4. I just now saw the preview to Wolf Creek on TV. For some reason when it came on, I thought it was Jeepers Creepers 3.

  5. It sounds like a very cliched horror experience, even if based on true events. I think it looks good, in spite of that, but it already has an uphill battle in wake of all of the shitty horror movies that have been released since August.

    So he's in Inglorious Bastards?

  6. Thanks for the heads up, looks like it could be good.

  7. I promise you its not a cliche experience. Hell, I'll refund you the price of your ticket if you think it is.

  8. I cannot wait for this movie to come out.

  9. Here's a review from Garth at DH. He says it's got more than it's fair share of horror cliches.

Sounds like a good date movie. Nothing like having your chick holding on for dear life.
